Job Summary
This is a nine-month tenure-track position to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in the department of Agriculture, advise students on academic and related
matter, serve as advisor and committee member on graduate students’ thesis and
non-thesis projects, develop and implement externally funded research projects,
and mentor and prepare students for graduate and professional schools, internship,
job, and related responsibilities. This position will require 40% teaching and 60%
research.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated skills in working with limited-resource individuals and the ability to develop partnerships and collaborations;
  • Understanding of different ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, commitment to include diverse voices in program prioritization and planning, and a commitment to developing and delivering both inclusive and targeted programming;
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work with faculty, staff, students, and alumni;
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate experiential learning;
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with county, state, regional and national stakeholders, including representatives of USDA agencies and related organizations

Essential Job Functions
  • Teach, develop, and modify undergraduate and graduate agricultural economics courses, including agricultural marketing and international agriculture.
  • Provide advisory support to students and collaborate extensively with organizations, agencies, and schools for placement and oversight of students in internships and projects, which facilitate the development of critical skill sets.
  • Participate in faculty governance, field trips, and outreach activities that promote both the College and resilient food systems.
  • Contribute to initiatives and programs regarding local agricultural sustainability and food distribution systems, which meet community demands for increased access to nutritious and safe locally grown food.
  • Obtain extramural funds to support applied research that integrates socio- agro-ecological perspectives with economically viable and friendly farming practices to develop more sustainable agroecosystems.
  • Publish in peer-refereed journals and outreach media.
  • Collaborate with other university-wide and community programs on interdisciplinary courses and projects related to areas of mutual interest including rural economic development, sustainable agribusiness, and resilient food systems.
  • Participate in campus sustainability planning efforts.
  • Advise undergraduate students and student clubs.
  • Advise graduate students and serve as the chair of graduate student research committees.

Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate degree from an accredited university in agricultural economics or a closely related agricultural field.
  • A high level of consideration will be given to candidates with experience in teaching, research, proposal development, farm management and agribusiness development.
