The Assistant Director for Campus Life: Student Organizations provides critical professional oversight and guidance to support student leaders and their organizations as part of the Center for Campus Life. This support allows the student organizations to develop a vibrant culture while supporting their members with events, recruitment, retention, and development in a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment. The Assistant Director serves as a resource for advocacy and education focused on student organizations and their advisors while also developing educational and leadership opportunities for students engaged in these organizations.
Reporting to an Associate Director for Campus Life, the Assistant Director will provide leadership and support for one or more of the following student organization groups:

The Assistant Director for Campus Life: Student Organizations provides critical professional oversight and guidance to support student leaders and their organizations as part of the Center for Campus Life. This support allows the student organizations to develop a vibrant culture while supporting their members with events, recruitment, retention, and development in a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment. The Assistant Director serves as a resource for advocacy and education focused on student organizations and their advisors while also developing educational and leadership opportunities for students engaged in these organizations.
Reporting to an Associate Director for Campus Life, the Assistant Director will provide leadership and support for one or more of the following student organization groups:
- Fraternity and Sorority Life
- Performing Arts Organizations
- New Student Orientation Leaders
- Campus Life Recognized Student Clubs
- RIT Recognized Student Clubs (College-based)
- Representative or Service Student Organizations including, but not limited to, the College Activities Board, Radio Station (WITR), Outspoken (LGBTQIA+ affiliated), ACA (ALANA Collegiate Association), Global Union, and NTID Student Congress.
- Student club and organization training, recognition and policy compliance oversight
- Event planning and risk management oversight for assigned student organizations, in collaboration with the Sr. Associate Director
- CampusGroups management and training for clubs and organizations
- Planning and implementation of the Tiger Activities Fair and student recruitment/engagement in clubs and organizations
- Training and development for club and organization advisors
- Training and development for student leaders including e-boards and leadership councils
- Hiring, training and supervision of graduate students, student supervisors and student staff
- Management of student teams with a focus on digital and promotional content development, student organization marketing, photography and video
Department/College Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Masters degree in higher education. Counseling, social work, or related fields
- 2 years of full-time professional experience working with college-aged students or young adults delivering programming and outreach specifically focused on topics and issues related to student development and campus engagement.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences
- Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies within and outside of the university setting
- Ability to understand, review, and interpret legal and risk management policies, compliance expectations, and university guidelines and procedures
- Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
- Budget experience and acumen
- Experience with staff development and supervision
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with student leaders
- Demonstrated ability in designing, implementing, and evaluating programming related to the student experience
- Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in complex situations with competing priorities
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and task completion in a fast-paced, student focused environment.
- Computer competence using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn
