Assistant Athletic Trainer Job at Bethel College
Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for organization and supervision of health care delivery to student-athletes under the supervision of the Director of Sports Medicine and the Team Physician. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will help deliver care to over 300 student-athletes of Bethel College. Some travel will be required.
Essential Functions:
- Support the mission, vision, and values of Bethel College
- Assist in the supervision, planning, and coordination of the assessment and treatment of injuries for all student-athletes
- Assist in the daily operation of the Athletic Training Clinic
- Provide proper medical coverage at all home athletic events and practices, as well as away events, as directed by the Director of Sports Medicine
- Organize and maintain daily records and compile injury/treatment reports for review
- Administer emergency care and make medical referrals for student-athletes
- Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student-athletes with restrictions or limitations
- Provide counseling opportunities to student-athletes regarding injuries, treatment rehabilitation, and time lost from participation—establishing medical confidentiality when appropriate
- Assist in coordination of educational programs targeted to increase awareness in the areas of prevention and treatment of injuries
- Assist with the administration and collection of pre-participation exams and compliance paperwork
- Assist Director of Sports Medicine with secondary insurance claims(s) processing
- Support the Bethel College concussion management protocol in consultation with the Bethel College Sports Medicine Team
- Maintain good standing with the NATA/BOC and Kansas State Board of Healing Arts for Athletic Training Licensure
- Demonstrate awareness of and compliance with all NAIA and KCAC rules and guidelines regarding medical aspects of sports
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with student-athletes, supervisor, team physician, and coaching staff
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt to changing work processes, including moving from in-person to remote work and back, as necessitated by Bethel College policy or as directed by the supervisor
- Other duties and responsibilities pertaining to athletic training as assigned by supervisor
- Satisfy the duties of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) relating to the duties of an Official with Authority (OWA) and Mandated Reporter relating to Title IX and the Bethel College Equal Opportunity, Harassment, & Non-Discrimination Policy and Procedures
- Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position
- Comply with Bethel College policies and procedures
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, health science, or related field, required
- Master’s degree in athletic training, health science, or related field, preferred
- Familiarity in working with a small school, preferred
Certifications & Licensure:
- NATA BOC Certified
- Current Kansas Athletic Licensure or eligible
- Valid driver’s license
Necessary Skills:
- Applied Knowledge: must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
