AmeriCorps Project Learn Specialist Job Describtion

PURPOSE:

• Plan, implement, supervise Project Learn activities for targeted you in the AmeriCorps Project Learn program

DUTIES:

1. Work hand-in-hand with Site Supervisor and Site Staff to:

• Determine targeted youth who would benefit from an academic focused program due to pre-determined risk factors such as low socio-economic status, single parent families, disciplinary or behavior issues and low grades;
• Plan, organize and implement daily, weekly and monthly Project Learn activity plans, specifically for targeted youth enrolled in the AmeriCorps Project Learn program;
• Promote engagement and participation in the Program;
• Administer measurement tools to targeted youth enrolled in the AmeriCorps Project Learn program to assess their progress (i.e. pre- and post- tests, report cards, activity narratives, etc.)

2. Recommend suggestions that respond to targeted youths’ needs and wants enrolled in the AmeriCorps program to Site Supervisor.

3. Ensure a healthy, clean and safe environment, supervising members enrolled in the AmeriCorps Project Learn program.

4. Manage room and ensure a productive work environment. Contact Site Supervisor when supplies are needed.

5. Establish ongoing communication with:

• Site Supervisor, who may have you contact:
• School Faculty-- speaking on the phone, in person and via email to discuss targeted youths’, who are enrolled in the AmeriCorps Project Learn program, progress and concerns
• Volunteer Services Director
• Weekly conference calls—discuss program progress, program concerns, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 17 years old and have received High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in planning and implementing programs/activities
• Passion for working with youth
• Ability to work with a diverse group of youth
• Ability to communicate effectively to supervisors, staff, parents, school faculty, community members and youth

TERM OF SERVICE:

• Complete hours as a Member by June 30, 2023

TIME REQUIREMENT:

• Complete hours during the time of service
• Participate in mandatory days of service:
• Veteran’s Day
• Memorial Day
• 9/11 Day
• Global youth Service Day
• MLK, Jr. Day
• AmeriCorps Week

· Complete hours during direct service hours at designated site (i.e. after-school hours, no school days (if applicable), teen night extended hours, etc.)

What is AmeriCorps Project Learn?

• The AmeriCorps Project Learn program is designed to help youth improve their Reading and Math skills through a variety of high-yield learning activities. Targeted youth will be tracked throughout the year (i.e. given pre- and post- tests, participating in high-yield learning activities, collecting report cards, etc).

• Illinois State background check and/or Home State background check
• FBI Fingerprint background check
• NSOPW.gov (National Sex Offender Public Registry) background check

What positions are available?

o Boys & Girls Club of Elgin

• 2 positions at 1700 hours by June 30, 2023
• 2 positions at 900 hours by June 30, 2023
• 2 positions at 675 hours by June 30, 2023

What are the benefits of being an AmeriCorps Member?

Pay: $13,992.00 - $27,984.00 per year
