Position Summary:

The liaison/coordinator will be empowered to speak on the entire breadth of ACEC offerings, equally representing each campus/university within the UA System. The position will report to the UA President or designee and represent the UA System and Board of Regents interests. As the university’s point of contact for the ACEC, the liaison/coordinator is to be proactive and form rapport with internal and external stakeholders and support ACEC initiatives and programs.

Duties:

10Legislative engagement and reporting In coordination with the Director of State Relations: • Receive and coordinate repsonses to queries, requests for input fro legislators following consultation with the ACEC Chair and UA System President • Working with the ACEC Chair, identify SOE faculty or administrators to testify to legislative education committees as needed In coordination with the Director of Federal Relations: • Disseminate information and requests from the US Department of Education and federal delegation on issues relevant to the ACECEssential
15Reporting to the Board of Regents, University President, and academic leadership Report to the Board of Regents, University President, VPASR and university academic leadership on UA System level education issues including dual enrollment and middle college program coordination/communication with stakeholders Prepare and present information on UA P12 education partnerships to the BOR ASA Committee as needed, in consultation with ACEC and UA System President Meet regularly with the ACEC chair and with leadership and faculty at each SOE Special projects as assignedEssential
25Support Collaboration Across the Universities' Teacher Education Programs (work with ACEC) Participate in regular ACEC meetings to support ACEC initiatives and programs and facilitate proactive communication across the UA Schools of Education. Coordinate ACEC marketing efforts in collaboration with ACEC marketing committee and assist and/or coordinate marketing efforts related to educator preparation initiatives and recruitment and other UA system P12 education related initiatives In collaboration with the ACEC, develop fact sheets and other information about UA education programs and provide them to external stakeholders Meet regularly with the ACEC chair and with leadership and faculty at each SOE Work with the UA Foundation, the communications teams at each university and system office of public affairs on initiatives related to building a culture of education in AlaskaEssential
50Inventory, coordinate, sustain and expand partnerships between UA system and P12 External Stakeholders Partnership inventory and coordination Develop systemwide map of existing partnerships between UA units/organizations and Alaskan school districts, education non-profit organizations and advocacy groups, and other governmental and non-governmental organizations centered on P12 education in Alaska Serve as initial point of contact for new inquiries to UA system from external stakeholders related to P12/higher education partnerships, including (but not limited to) those related to educator preparation, educator professional development, dual enrollment programs, early college/high school programs, early childhood education programs, education policy and research needs, grant partnership opportunities, etc. Seek opportunities to improve coordination of education-based partnerships and to expand communication and collaboration between UA and external stakeholder entities involved in partnership efforts Partnership maintenance and development P-12 Attend Alaska Superintendents Association and Association of Alaska School Boards meetings – maintaining strong communication and managing expectations Communicate with Alaska Council of School Administrators (ACSA) on statewide K12 needs, in consultation with ACEC and UA system president Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) Serve as UA system point of contact for DEED, and attend DEED meetings when needed, reporting back to the ACEC and system president State Board of Education Attend joint BOR-State Board of Education Committee as needed and report to ACEC and UA system president Attend meetings of other external stakeholder groups on education related subjects as needed and report back to ACEC and UA system presidentEssential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Understanding of the political landscape in Alaska and demonstrated political acumen:
  • Must be comfortable working with legislature, DEED and other stakeholder organizations.


  • Understanding of P-12 education, higher education teacher programs and higher education environment:
  • Must understand teacher preparation programs and the role the university holds in preparing teachers in Alaska.


  • Expert knowledge of system wide policies and/or responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of program and program design aligning with University-level goals and objectives.

  • - Knowledge of strategic, short- and long-range planning processes and able to recommend process improvements.

    Expert communication and administrative skills:
  • Expert planning and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent public speaking, responsiveness to stakeholders with diplomacy and tact.

  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to create comprehensive reports, and formulating responses to inquiries.

  • Ability to identify, organize, plan and allocate resources.

  • Experience:
    Six years progressively responsible experience in education in Alaska (P-12) or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Should be a respected leader in education in Alaska.
    Rural school district experience and experience within UA preferred.

    Required Education or Training:

    Master's degree in education or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. PhD preferred.

    Demonstrated knowledge of preparing teachers to work with diverse populations of students in PK-12 settings.

    Demonstrated understanding of the political landscape in Alaska centered around PK-12 and teacher preparation.



    Salary Information:

    This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience.
