The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is now accepting applications for Transportation Maintainer 2 (Airport Grounds Maintenance/CDL Driver) in Windsor Locks, CT, for the following shifts: Monday - Friday, 7am-3pm; Monday - Friday, 3am-11am; Tuesday - Saturday, 7am-3pm; Sunday - Thursday, 7am-3pm.

YOUR ROLE:
Airport Maintainers are responsible for performing a full range of grounds, equipment, and facilities duties, which include andscaping, mowing, asphalt and concrete repair, pavement line-striping and runway snow removal. These positions require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B with Air Brake endorsement, and a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate at the time of application, and both must be kept current as a condition of employment with the CAA. - There is a one-hour response time when called into work.
- To support the safety of the traveling public, various storm events will require employees to be at work prior, during and after a storm or weather event, which at times could be up to period of several days, and include holidays and weekends.
- Airport safety and security are a priority. As essential employees, individuals in these positions must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties including snow and ice removal and glycol recovery whenever those services are needed. The airport is staffed 7 days a week. Overtime work is required on nights, holidays and weekends. There is mandatory winter overtime from November 1st through April 30th.
- Military members and recently honorably discharged veterans who possess at least two years' experience in operating a commercial motor vehicle as part of their military job requirements may qualify for these opportunities based on meeting the CDL Skills Test Exemption for Military Applicants as outlined on the CT DMV website at the time of application.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Work experience in an airport or high security environment;
- Good mechanical skills;
- 1-2 years of experience operating various types of heavy equipment;
- 1-2 years of snow removal experience;
- Experience with radio monitoring and communications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
- Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever his or her services are required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness in order to perform the duties of the class.
- A physical examination will be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Incumbents in this class are exposed to extremes of weather conditions, to frequent lifting of heavy weights, to highly dangerous road and traffic conditions, including exposure to heights when working on bridges, to poison ivy, insect bites and allergy irritants during summer months, and to loud and potentially dangerous machinery.
- The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
