THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a teacher with a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Teaching or Education who is passionate about evidence based reading instruction? We are seeking educators with elementary reading experience who are reliable, passionate about literacy, and looking to make a difference.

Hoot Reading is an online education company that connects emerging readers with experienced teachers to practice guided reading aloud over the award-winning Hoot Reading App. Our lessons are one-to-one and are personalized to the individual student.

We are currently recruiting teachers to help young students boost their reading skills – phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency and comprehension. Teachers will read online for 20 minutes with children from K to Gr. 4 at a range of reading levels and struggling readers up to Gr. 9. Your role is to listen and provide constructive feedback in real time as the child reads out loud.

THE OFFER

• Starting from $18/hour based on experience
• Flexibility with no commute
• Peak times needed are weekday afternoons/evenings from 3:30pm - 9:00pm CST. We are currently only looking for teachers with availability during these times.
• Sessions to be completed in your home. All you need is a computer or tablet and reliable internet service.
• Additional income available for teacher referrals or assisting with special projects

THE COMMITMENT

• Reliable availability of 12+ hours per week, must include weekday afternoons/evenings from 3:30pm - 9:00pm CST
• Preference will be given to those who can maintain a consistent schedule – Sessions are pre-scheduled
• Keep notes and provide feedback – We ask for quick feedback on lessons
• Able to self motivate

THE TIMELINE

• We are looking for teachers who can start in May 2023.
• We will be onboarding qualified candidates throughout April and into May, with opportunities to start ASAP if desired and availability fits.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, or equivalent, or higher
• Minimum 2 years of classroom experience with preference to PreK to Gr. 4
• Passion for literacy and guided reading
• Criminal records/child abuse registry check upon request
• FBI fingerprinting checks may be required for some programs
