The role of Assistant Operator, under the guidance of the Plant Operator and Shift Supervisor, is to support the efficient, accurate and comprehensive process of creating carbon black.
Essential Functions
- Ability to integrate oneself in any point of the carbon black manufacturing process including but not limited to:
- Understand and execute start-up and shut-down manufacturing procedures as well as contingency plan processes in the presence of power failures or mechanical errors and issues
- Manages the manual process of switching product tanks after the tanks are satisfactorily filled
- Obtain solid working knowledge of mixer controls and operation
- Ability to create carbon black pellets to certain specifications and grades and the as well as the process knowledge to modify pellet characteristics ad hoc
- Working knowledge of the primary bag filter operation as well as troubleshooting issues that may arise
- Changing out/replacement of all powder pumps
- Ability to safely manage and operate reactors, sprayers and dryers
- Understand the application, inclusion of and overall procedural need for the following in the carbon black creation process:
- Gas
- Water
- Oil
- Potassium
- Molasses
- Diesel Systems
- Nitrogen
- Exercise solid understanding of carbon black pellet qualities (and the impact of those qualities on performance) including but not limited to:
- Fines
- Pellet Size Distributions
- Mass Strength
- Pellet hardness
- Perform during manufacturing process monitoring to ensure efficient carbon black production and reduce the likelihood of delays or stalls in the process
- Unload all oil cars and trucks
- Exercising proper procedures regarding the valve operations related to oil tanks and its routing
- Interpret and apply all environmental safety policy requirements and procedures throughout the manufacturing processes
- Other duties may be assigned at the supervisor's discretion
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
- 0-2 years’ experience working with mechanical processes or production
- Ability to read, interpret and understand safety and process/procedure manuals
- Solid communication skills
- 0-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
- 0-2 years of general machinery maintenance experience
- Strong mechanical and operational aptitude in a manufacturing environment
