SCHOOL DESCRIPTION

Marin Horizon School, located in Mill Valley, CA, is a progressive, toddler – 8th grade school with approximately

280 students. The Montessori-inspired, inquiry-based curriculum focuses heavily on hands-on, collaborative

learning in order to develop students’ academic and social-emotional skills. The school views character education

and self-advocacy as integral to growth in and out of the classroom and acknowledges diversity, equity, and

inclusion as necessary elements of a strong community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of a school van driver for Marin Horizon School include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate a school van by assessing traffic and road conditions, monitoring student behavior and other
factors necessary to safely deliver student passengers to and from school by adhering to state laws and

school policies. Drivers will be evaluated annually on driving and student management skills.

  • Responsible to make stops at authorized locations and transport only authorized passengers.
Communicates route changes and hazards to the Director of Transportation.

  • Performs van safety pre-trip inspections as required by law to assure proper vehicle working condition.
Maintains all safety equipment. Drivers will be evaluated annually on pre-trip inspections.

  • Communicates to mechanics all defects and maintenance needs. Performs post-trip inspection to check
for vandalism, lost articles, or sleeping students.

  • Monitors student behavior and provides written reports for all incidents of misconduct to the Director of
Transportation.

  • Maintains a safe and sanitary van environment for students by sweeping and dusting the interior daily.
  • Attends in-service meetings and completes certification training for CPR/First Aid, driver's license testing,
and special education training as required.

  • Performs daily record-keeping activities such as pre-trip inspection forms, route surveys, and route maps.
  • Performs tasks as apparent or assigned.
