Weekend Maintenance - Norwich University Job at Norwich University
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by repairing and maintaining plumbing, heating and simple electrical systems on campus buildings and facilities. Installs equipment and provides support for sound systems and events. Thursday to Monday schedule including flexible shifts and overtime as required to set-up and operate audio/video function of the events, after-hours emergency work, and rotating on call weekend team. This position is 40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.
Salary: $18.00 per hour or more, depending on experience.
Essential Functions
- Acts as a lead sound technician, responsible for all audio and video events, logistical setup and troubleshooting of all equipment.
- Sets up equipment and provides support for sound systems at events.
- Assists with maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating, and electrical systems.
- Maintains records of time, materials, etc. involved with each job.
- Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with Norwich University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs associated Facilities Operations maintenance work as requested, including, but not limited to:
- snow removal
- event set-up and clean-up
- truck loading and unloading
- grounds maintenance
Other Functions
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
- Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
- Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
- Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
- Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
- Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3 years of maintenance experience required
- Valid driver's license required
- Knowledge of propane, heating, or electrical systems preferred
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 75 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work weekend hours and some evenings

- High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
