Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator OR Maintenance Worker I at the Wastewater Treatment Plant

The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The successful candidate will be a licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator Class I-IV, OR a candidate qualified as a Maintenance Worker I with the intent to become a certified Operator.

If the successful candidate is a licensed WWTP operator, starting pay is $24.53 - $29.06/hour, based on the level of WWTP Operator license certification. Increases to $28.34 - $33.58/hour after one year of service. If the successful candidate is hired as a Maintenance Worker I, starting pay is $22.73/hour, increasing to $26.26 after one year of service. Any candidate hired as a Maintenance Worker I is expected to progressively attain WWTP Operator licensure certifications.

The City offers an excellent, comprehensive benefits package. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract. This posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Duties:

· Continually checks, and is responsible for, the effluent at the Wastewater Treatment Plant;

· Collects samples and conducts lab tests, or ensures that lab tests are performed;

· Replaces, maintains, and repairs equipment;

· Monitors gauges, dials, and SCADA system, and keeps logs of readings at the facility and lift stations;

· Performs plant maintenance, including overhaul maintenance of equipment on a regular basis;

· Maintains current knowledge of professional developments in the field;

· Maintains licensure;

· Submits reports to appropriate regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent; or six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;

· Possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Wastewater Operator license certification

· Experience working within a wastewater treatment facility
