Overview:

Volunteer services will be provided under the direction of this position with appropriate training for all hospice volunteers. The duties and responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator are to manage recruiting efforts, train volunteers and fulfill all volunteer requests while meeting all state and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will develop, implement, and evaluate the volunteer services program on an ongoing basis but at least annually.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will arrange for volunteers to provide volunteer support to patient and family/caregiver in accordance with the plan of care.
  • Volunteers will document their activities on volunteer activity/clinical notes and submit this documentation for the patient's clinical records.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will track the use of volunteers, the cost savings achieved, and that the hours of volunteer services will meet or exceed 5% of the total patient care hours of paid and contracted hospice personnel.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will document ongoing efforts to recruit, train, and retain volunteers of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Plan and coordinate public education and communication efforts to increase community
    outreach

Mental Requirements:
Support and direct field staff and branch leadership with urgent patient related matters that can create stressful situations. Need to be able to focus for long periods of time. Ability to cope with death and dying and the psychological effects.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of time or greater. The incumbent must be able to move, stand and bend if necessary, to access file cabinets, etc. Will be operating computers and a variety of office equipment. Able to position, move and lift medical supplies up to 50 lbs. Must be able to communicate with referral sources and all outside entities telephonically. Ability to operate a variety of electronic devices and participate in webinars and conference calls.

Environmental Requirements
: Ability to work in an office setting 50% of the time and out in the community 50% of the time. Occasionally meet with patients and families in their place of residence or assist with
deliveries as needed

Travel
: Could require some local day travel, approximately 10-20% of the time within the Hospice Division Service area.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Preferred Associates Degree or higher; minimum of a high school diploma
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Be coachable with a goal to grow personally and professionally.
  • Embrace the hospice philosophy and the principles of death or dying.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience operating in a medical office environment Demonstrated experience with recruiting type activities.
  • Experience working with electronic documentation.
