Overview:

CASA of the Appalachian Mountains is seeking a dynamic Volunteer Coordinator esponsible for the overall leadership and management of the program and its operations.

The Volunteer Coordinator assists in organizing, facilitating, and conducting pre-service and continuing education trainings for volunteers as needed. Assist in volunteer appreciation events. Ensure that National and Kentucky CASA standards and statutes are met. This individual may be assigned any other reasonable duties. The Volunteer Coordinator helps organize all aspects of volunteering, from recruiting new volunteers to promoting opportunities for people who want more hours in their schedule. They're also responsible for keeping leaders informed on administrative changes, schedule changes, and continued training requirements. This position will report to the executive director. Conditions of Employment: Flexible schedule includes regular office hours and frequent evening and weekend work. Must have daily transportation in order to attend meetings, court, facilitate home visits, and represent CASA at other functions.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Appalachian Mountains is a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to promote and advocate for children who have experienced dependency, neglect, and abuse, and to provide trained community volunteers to represent the safety and best interest of such children in the court system with the goal of guiding them to safe, permanent, and loving homes. The service area includes Perry County with plans to expand to Knott, Leslie, and Letcher Counties.
Job Duties:

  • Adhere to CASA policies and procedures in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Recruit and train CASA volunteers.
  • Participate in pre-service training.
  • Supervise, consult, and assist CASA volunteers in preparation of cases for court and for their provision of ongoing advocacy services.
  • Assure reports prepared by CASA volunteers are reviewed, professionally written, typed, reproduced, and delivered (within the established timeline) to all relevant parties.
  • Assure maintenance of case files and volunteer reports, keeping information updated on computerized database (Optima) in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of CASA as needed through database reports.
  • Make a minimum of monthly personal contact with each assigned volunteer, more often as needed by volunteer, case, and/or staff.
  • Ensure that the case files are returned and closure forms are completed at the close of each case.
  • Conduct exit interviews with volunteers leaving the program.
  • Assist with preparation and participation in special events, fundraising, and other development activities as needed to represent CASA of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Assist in organizing, facilitating, and conducting pre-service and in-service trainings for volunteers.
  • Assist in development of training programs and training material.
  • Assist in matching volunteers with cases.
  • Assist with yearly survey forms for volunteers, partners, and children served. Assist in volunteer appreciation events.
  • Assist in screening and interviewing new volunteers.
  • Ensure that National Kentucky CASA Network Standards and KRS Statutes are met.
  • Prepare and submit articles as needed in a timely manner for inclusion in program publication.
  • Develop and nurture positive, functional relationships with community groups and leaders, child welfare agencies, funding sources, the media, donors, and other local organizations
  • Perform other functions, as assigned by the Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Communications, or related human services field.
  • Experience in child system, court system, and/or supervision of volunteers preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Detailed-oriented self starter able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups
  • Successful fundraising and volunteer recruitment experience.

Benefits:CASA of the Appalachian Mountains offers a competitive salary for this full-time/exempt position as well as paid time off, and a flexible schedule. The salary range for this position is $36,000-$38,000.
