Veterinary Room Nurse Job at Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital
FT Veterinary Room Nurse needed for our Small Animal hospital in beautiful Point Loma. We have added another doctor and need to add more to our awesome team. We are open M-5 from 8am - 6pm, closed weekends.
Our technicians and assistants provide animal care by determining animal requirements; conducting diagnostic procedures; assisting during operations; feeding and caring for animals; maintaining supplies and equipment; maintaining records.
Core Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable
- Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing care
- Performing cursory exams and making recommendations for wellness care as well as providing estimates.
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and explaining prescription directions
- Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and providing telephone support
- Performing various laboratory tests
- Suggesting dietary products and other services to clients
- Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Veterinary Technician Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Animal Behavior, Animal Husbandry, Documentation Skills, Analyzing Information, Clinical Skills, creating a Safe, Effective Environment, Performing Diagnostic Procedures, Use of Medical Technologies, Attention to Detail, Patience, Verbal Communication
Expertise & Experience:
- 1+ years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant
- Always displays a professional manner
Physical:
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to be on feet for 8 hours per day.
- Must be able to restrain dogs and cats for examination and treatment.
