Job Description Summary
The Senior Director, Government Affairs and Policy position is focused on successful execution of GE Additive’s global policy and government affairs strategy. She/he will provide expertise guidance to senior leadership and team within government affairs across GE and actively manage funding initiatives and develop programs to further GE Additive’s technology development.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Serves as a key advisor and partner to key GE Additive leaders on US Government policy and strategy.
- Collaborates with the GE Corporate and Aviation Government Affairs, and International Markets teams to ensure alignment.
- Work with GE Additive Engineering to discern critical technology priorities by both GE Additive and the U.S. government to determine alignment and potential research partnerships
- Liaise with appropriate federal agencies, including Departments of Defense, Energy, and Commerce as well as NASA to identify and capture key alliance opportunities for GE Additive.
- Support GE Additive’s Legal, contracting, and engineering teams to support development of bids & proposals, government project management, and follow-on actions to ensure GE Additive’s successful government R&D activities.
- Work with key Members of Congress and staff on relevant House and Senate committees to achieve positive policy, appropriations, and authorization outcomes for GE Additive.
- Consult, advise, and support GE Additive businesses on developing and implementing policy strategies to enable technology, research, and business goals. Advise senior management on opportunities and programs to further GE Additive technology development.
- Represent GE Additive at various government and industry association meetings.
- Visit facilities throughout the United States and abroad and attend approved GE PAC events.
- Protect and maintain the privacy of employee personnel records including, but not limited to, personal and compensation information about employees
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college; Masters preferred.
- A minimum of 12 years of professional experience, with at least five of those years in cumulative congressional and/or executive branch experience
Eligibility Requirements:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job
- Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen
- Must be willing to travel, domestically and internationally, as required
Desired Characteristics:
- Proven well-established contact network, involvement, and success in influencing the development of federal legislation and executive branch policy decisions; strong knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes including understanding of federal appropriations and authorization process.
- Established relationships with policy makers within foreign policy and national security communities, including within the Department of Defense, relevant congressional committees, congressional leadership and staff, and other relevant key staff.
- The ability to quickly and thoroughly analyze a broad range of issues utilizing varied analytical techniques is key, as is sophisticated/strategic thinking to determine how best to influence decision/policy makers.
- The ability to synthesize complex problems/public policy issues while identifying their related business implications and the actions necessary to advocate a recommended outcome is essential.
- A hands-on approach to problem solving, as well as a professional executive presence for interacting with and influencing public policy decision makers, senior management, and executives internal and external to the company is necessary.
- Strong cross functional collaboration and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
- Able to prepare and present information in both formal and informal settings, to managers and non-managers.
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
