The Supplemental Health Insurance market is growing rapidly with numerous group carriers entering the market. Guardian has robust growth objectives over the next several years which requires strong underwriting discipline to make educated risk decisions. As a Supplemental Health Underwriter, you will be responsible for profitably growing our Supplemental health block and function as a key resource to our sales field and across our organization.
The Underwriting Analysts are viewed as subject matter experts on the product set, service offerings and pricing variables to ensure proper risk evaluation, successful ongoing administration, and successful sales results. Ideal candidates will offer consultative UW services for the product portfolio including plan design analysis, enrollment approach, broker / tech vendor partnership and expense levels.
You will
  • Collaborate in end-to-end quote process from rating through proposal to ensure accurate rate development, speed to market and effective decision making.
  • Review each submission prior to developing a proposal to ensure a comprehensive risk decision can be made including but not limited to:
  • Plan design, expense levels, Enrollment approach (if necessary), state specific requirements etc.
  • Consult with Sales partners on each opportunity, i.e., plan adequacy, rate levels, risk related items to ensure all parties are on the same page with quote approach.
  • Coordinate with cross functional partners such as Actuarial, Product and Enrollment for unique or more complex scenarios
  • Continue to refine risk analysis process and provide recommendations to leadership including case level trends, tool needs, metrics and reporting etc.
  • Regular connectivity with Sales field and cross functional partners through strategy calls and day to day interactions
  • Assist with the creation of customized broker rate sheets. New development and renewals- rate generation
  • Assist management and broader team with projects and initiatives.
You have
  • A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, but not required.
  • At least three years of Group benefits underwriting experience is required.
  • Experience in Supplemental Health insurance products (Accident, Critical Illness, Cancer) is a plus, but not required.
Location
  • This position is a remote/work from home position which can be located anywhere in the continental United States.
  • Limited travel is required for this role.

Salary Range
$55,570.00 - $92,610.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
