This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and public potable water distribution system in accordance with federal and state codes. Plans maintenance and supervises Treatment Plant Operators. Inspects and tests equipment and water as required. Maintains required documentation. Operates and manages a wastewater treatment plant and water system in accordance with regulations set by the Commonwealth of Virginia and Federal Agencies.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Experience in water and/or wastewater operations. A Class II Virginia Water and/or Wastewater Operator License is required (If in possession of one license, the selected candidate must be eligible for licensure in the other discipline). Working knowledge of chemical, biological and plant operation to diagnose and correct problems/needed repairs. Demonstrated ability to order supplies, complete and submit monthly monitoring reports. Working knowledge and skill in preventive maintenance of water treatment plant and equipment. Must be able to independently carry out the required duties without direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer trades experience with a background in electrical or plumbing. Prefer corrections experience. Prefer supervisory experience. Prefer experience preparing work schedules. Prefer experience in developing and maintaining operating budgets. Class V Water Operators License beneficial but not required.

Special Requirements
