POSITION: FLIGHT STANDARDS AND TRAINING MANAGER
As a Flight Standards and Training Manager reporting to the Director of Operations, you will serve as a leader in our Flight Operations department as we develop and support our growing business. This includes ensuring all Grant Aviation Pilots are trained in accordance with the provisions of the FAA approved Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM). This is an updated version of a position that was vacated when the current DO was promoted, so while the scope of the position has changed, there are resources to understand what the norm has been. If you're looking for an opportunity to build upon a solid foundation and create a culture of growth and development for individuals and the team, this could be a match for you!
What makes this job different than any other Flight Standards and Training Manager role you could apply for today? Grant Aviation has doubled the size of our organization in the past two years and the Flight Operations team is preparing for the future of the company. This includes enhancing our current services to the company, identifying and removing barriers and "information silos" where appropriate, developing new practices and procedures to add value to current operations, and planning for the future of our department and the company. This means you'll have the opportunity to both apply your established toolkit and develop new tools for your future and ours. The biggest difference we think you'll find, though, is our culture of service, which translates to some great people to work with. Our team is committed to providing safe, reliable, friendly service for internal and external customers and contacts, just as we are for our passengers and clients.
LIFE ON THE JOB
The Flight Standards and Training Manager works primarily from our offices on the south end of Ted Stevens International Airport. This position will typically work Monday through Friday. Occasional work from home opportunities may exist after initial training, if project work or other considerations make this necessary. Our culture puts high value on in-person work arrangements, so you will thrive in a busy office environment with plenty of direct interaction with your teammates.
Day to day work will initially be focused on getting to know company training standards as outlined in our FOTM, as well as meeting our internal customers. You'll work with the DO and Flight Ops leaders to understand our current training curriculum, regulatory requirements, processes, and schedules, and begin to identify where additional team or individual training is needed. We'll be prepared to introduce you to our flight instructors right away, and you'll assume immediate responsibility for maintaining flight operations training records in compliance with FAA and company standards.
Over time, you can expect to be largely self-sufficient in your day-to-day work. The Director of Operations has an open-door policy, expecting staff to work without micro-management, but always willing to answer questions and assist with planning or problem solving. You'll partner with the Chief Pilot and DO to evaluate pilot qualifications to ensure issues are identified and proactively managed for the benefit of the pilot and the company. You'll deliver training directly, so you'll need to maintain your own qualifications accordingly, in addition to understanding and monitoring the qualifications and aptitudes of flight instructors and check airmen. All of these duties will inform and contribute to company safety, so you'll partner with the Director of Safety for mutual support in establishing and communicating safety related curriculum.
Long term, we expect the department to further expand, providing opportunities for advancement within the team. This means we will work with you and all members of the team to identify skills and aptitudes to grow your career along with the department. We anticipate there will be training support from our HR team, and you'll partner as appropriate with the Maintenance Training Manager to ensure an appropriate level of consistency and shared resources across the departments.
