Therapeutic Recreation Specialist -Adult Day Services (ADS) Job at Mount Olivet Rolling Acres
Job Summary: This position supports MORA Adult Day Services, providing leadership to both clients and the staff team. Responsible for implementing the program in a Therapeutic Recreation setting.
Mount Olivet Rolling Acres – MORA – is a diverse and inclusive nonprofit has supported adults, seniors and children with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs as well as age-related and chronic medical conditions for over 50 years in the Twin Cities metro.
An array of services: Adult Day Services, Contracted Case Management, Community Supports, over 30 Residential Homes, Respite, Therapeutic Recreation, Training for Guardians & Families, and a unique therapeutic Summer Camp for Youth with Autism. Our Metro Crisis Coordination Program (MCCP) offers a safety net of crucial and cost-effective services for adults and children.
Pay Range: $31,200-$58,994 DOQ
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Essential Job Functions and Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operations of the Adult Day Services program.
- Supervise Adult Day Services staff. Maintain the daily staff schedule, recruit, hire, train and evaluate staffs.
- Schedules staff and manages time off requests.
- Coordinates a plan for activities and ensures programs are in place to support clients’ needs, interests, and preferences.
- Assists with and coordinates a plan for client transportation services and vehicle maintenance.
- Develops and facilitates a process for maintaining program supplies and equipment needed to support activities and client care needs
- Assists with food service duties as needed
- Assists with process of recruiting and enrolling new clients.
- Participates in client interdisciplinary meetings
- Completes required client documentation (assessments, care plans, quarterly reports, and progress notes)
- Completes monthly attendance, transportation and administrative records required for licensing and billing.
- Provide shift supervision for staff – observing, supporting, training and evaluating as needed
- Assists in the communication to guardians, families, residential providers or other concerned parties
- Fills the program’s “in charge” role when Program Director is away
- Assists clients with personal care, behavior support and health care needs of clients when needed
- Administers medications without errors (as requested)
- Works harmoniously with and shows due respect for employees, supervisors, vendors and clients Communicates effectively with others at work verbally and in writing, using the primary spoken language of consumers in the program whenever possible
- Reads and follows company policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Desirable Qualifications:
- Completion of a BS/ BA degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Services, or related field of study.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligible to take the exam is not required but highly desirable
- Three or more years working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Preferably in a recreation/leisure setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of active treatment philosophies as they related to recreation/leisure settings
- Certified in CPR, Medication Administration, and Serv Safe or able to obtain upon hire
- Proven leadership and communication skills
- Communicates effectively with others at work verbally and in writing, using the primary spoken language of consumers in the home whenever possible
Required Qualifications:
- Must pass Department of Human Services background check and maintain “qualified” status
- Must not be excluded from working in government health programs by the Office of Inspector General
- Must be able to successfully complete company’s basic job skills assessments
- Must have a valid driver’s license and must have insurance as required by state law
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be granted a medical or religious exemption by Mount Olivet Rolling Acres.
