Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a Temporary 6.5 hour per day Media Coordinator at Meadow View K-8 School.

Nature of Work

A Media Coordinator is responsible for providing paraprofessional school library or media center assistance to elementary, middle, and high school students and staff. Positions of this class are distinguished by their responsibility for accession, cataloging, circulation, and reference related activities that require the application of established library practices and computerized systems. The Media Coordinator may coordinate the operation of a school personal computer lab.


Examples of Work

These duties are illustrative only. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Processes books and other library materials for circulation, according to established procedures using a computerized bar-coded circulation system; updates and maintains system database; generates computer reports on library circulation, overdue books, and other related information; performs periodic back-ups of computer circulation system.
  • Makes recommendations to Media Specialist or school administrator for the purchase of textbooks and reference materials as requested by staff or based upon the prior year’s experience, in accordance with established district policies and practices.
  • Sorts and organizes catalog cares according to prescribed filing rules; prepares and updates catalog cards and book spine tags, determines appropriate cataloging for new books and modification of existing collections to incorporate additional materials.
  • Assists students and teachers locate books and reference materials; and assists students with library skills.
  • Keeps magazine collection current and in good order; repairs worn and damaged library materials; performs simple cleaning and maintenance of audio-visual equipment.
  • Supervises and assists at the circulation desk; assist students in using card catalog, reference materials, computers in the computer lab, and other media center services and resources.
  • Participates in training and supervising student assistants in a variety of routine library tasks; instructs students and teachers in the use of microfilm and microfiche readers; schedules use of audio-visual equipment.

Selection Factors

  • Knowledge of the kinds of services, facilities, and programs found in libraries and media or learning resource centers.
  • Knowledge of basic procedures and practices used in school library cataloging and circulation activities.
  • Knowledge of book repair techniques and the proper materials to use.
  • Ability to understand, use, and maintain computerized circulation systems.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using word processing and database software as required by the position.
  • Ability to organize and conduct library orientations for students and assist them in using the school media center for class assignments.
  • Ability to research particular areas and provide workable bibliographies.
  • Ability to understand and apply established library cataloging and circulation procedures.
  • Ability to learn to safely operate and maintain audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, administrators, parents, and co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable and prompt attendance.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience in any of the program areas assigned to the position or substituting course work or training in library science for the experience. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted for the required experience. New staff must be fully vaccinated to meet the COVID-19 vaccine mandate or have an approved exception.
