The School of Motion Pictures & Television fosters creativity and independence in film making as an art. We also provide instruction in the commercial aspects of film making as a business. Our approach is dedicated to practical, hands-on training in a collaborative framework. Students are immersed in a broad range of film making skills, including producing, directing, cinematography, lighting, sound, editing, screenwriting, production design, and acting.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Lab Resources, the Motion Pictures & Television Production Design Shop Technical Coordinator acts as a classroom, shop, studio and lab liaison with department directors and faculty to coordinate and ensure responsiveness to all shop needs.

  • Provide assistance and respond to shop safety-related questions from instructors, students and set design personnel.
  • Train and provide for the safety of all students, faculty and staff using the shop, including hosting safety orientations.
  • Report and follow up on any instances of injury or damage that may occur in the 466 Townsend shops and studios.
  • Maintain and update all OSHA / HAZMAT documents pertaining to the shops, studios and overall site.
  • Maintain and update safety manuals in compliance with fire and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee necessary annual safety inspections.
  • Attend safety meetings pertaining to the Lab Resources Group and the University at large.
  • Coordinate and oversee shop, studio and lab use by other University Departments.
  • Train and provide continuous safety-related guidance to all set design personnel.
  • Set the schedule for Lab Resources personnel within MPT.
  • Establish and maintain the set design shop hours in partnership with MPT and Academic Administration leadership.
  • Write and update shop machine operations and shop manual.

Requirements:

  • Must have extensive experience and knowledge about OSHA.
  • Must be able to quickly help to resolve matters that directly impact the work of students in a shop or computer lab environment.
  • Have experience with software and hardware updates or machinery repairs.
  • Ensure best practices are followed for respective work locations
  • A positive attitude and solution-oriented mindset to successfully troubleshoot a variety of technical matters while providing quality customer service to all students and faculty is required.
  • Strong time management and organizational skill sets that enable you to support a number of individuals effectively and quickly
  • A passion for art and design and at least two years of professional experience working within a related field is preferred
  • Knowledge of PCs and Macs is highly preferred. Respective software program and / or tool shop knowledge is necessary.

Compensation - $29.00 per hour
