PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
Under the general supervision of the Shop Manager, responsible for performing installation, repairs, testing, rebuilding, fabrication and maintenance of tanks and chassis’ in a professional, timely, and customer focused manner while complying with all company procedures and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs as a Registered Inspector in conducting DOT inspections, mounting tanks, and installing equipment. Follows written procedures and manufacturers’ requirements to ensure work complies with company standards and meets codes (DOT, NHTSA, NFPA, OSHA, etc.).
Prepares chassis’ for tank mounting including: installing PTO’s, pumps, pump brackets, relocating axles, shortening/lengthening truck frames, and moving truck components in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
Mounts tanks, decks, reels, meters, and connects plumbing according to plans and standardized procedures. Helps establish procedures and develop consistent methods of operation through the plant.
Installs pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and computerized control systems, makes all connections consistent with chassis manufacturer’s specifications, documents and makes sure work follows standardized layouts and meets regulatory requirements.
Performs routine truck maintenance and repairs, refurbishes and remounts tanks on different chassis’s, repairs/replaces collision damage, cleans and washes trucks.
Follows all OSHA and company established safety procedures, state and federal regulations.
Cleans work bay and keeps shop and grounds in orderly condition.
May assist with pick-up and delivery of units if proper licensing is gained.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Attends and completes appropriate maintenance schools and D.O.T. training.
Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Normally requires a high school degree or GED equivalent. Technical school graduate preferred.
The ability to climb into, out of, and work inside small confined spaces with a 16 inch entry/exit opening.
In addition to Technician I, II & III duties, Registered Inspector must:
- Be proficient in DOT regulations, testing requirements, procedures, and forms for GROWMARK and outside customer units.
- Be proficient in troubleshooting unloading, loading, welding, fabricating, air brake systems, suspension and brake work, and electrical systems.
- Have the ability to perform all inspections and repairs required to maintain NH3 LP trailers, bobtails, tank wagons, and petroleum tanks within DOT regulations and all associated test forms required.
- Pass the GROWMARK Transportation Department welding test using the standards (bench testing of welds) required to do R-stamp welding.
- Have achieved the DOT Registered Inspector designation.
- Have successfully obtained the welding certification for steel and aluminum cargo tank alloys in accordance with National Board R-stamp weld procedures, or ability to gain such within one year of employment.
Ability to safely and proficiently operate: acetylene torch, plasma cutter, grinder, drill, metal saw, impact wrench, and typical mechanics tools.
Understands wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment installation procedures, and can measure and layout work.
Proven professional communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills along with “attention to detail” skills to satisfy customer and employee requests.
Organized and can work in a multi-task, environment with deadlines; Proven ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
Understands wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment installation procedures, and can measure and layout work.
Proven professional communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills along with “attention to detail” skills to satisfy customer and employee requests.

Must be willing and able to travel independently, including overnight, and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Proven verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
Ability to perform work in confined spaces, stand for long periods of time, and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be willing and able to work hours beyond those usually considered normal.
Must provide own mechanics tools.
Frequently exposed to the following conditions: Extreme weather (hot, cold, wet, etc.), noisy conditions, dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safely measures.
Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
