The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It has the mandate to assure “every man and woman in the Nation safe and healthful working conditions and to preserve our human resources.” NIOSH has more than 1,300 employees from a diverse set of fields including epidemiology, medicine, nursing, industrial hygiene, safety, psychology, chemistry, statistics, economics, and many branches of engineering.

Duties

As a Talent Acquisition Specialist, you will:

  • Be part of the NIOSH's Human Capital Team focused on recruiting, retaining, developing, and engaging a workforce capable of meeting the mission and goals of the Institute.
  • Lead a team of 6 individuals responsible for ensuring the Institute have plans, processes, and procedures to hire, recruit, retain and onboard a highly qualified and diverse workforce.
  • Serve as the primary liaison and contact between NIOSH and the CDC Office of Human Resources to solve issues or concerns and execute creative ways to hire and retain talent.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the NIOSH Strategic Outreach & Recruitment Plan that aligns to the Institute's Workforce & Succession Plan as well as the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Plan.
  • Serve as the Primary Advisor to NIOSH Senior Leaders in the areas of recruitment and hiring and represents NIOSH in justifying/defending the organization's Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development needs, plans, and programs.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and training to NIOSH Division Administrative Officers and hiring officials.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in analyzing, planning and managing the talent acquisition/hiring, retention and development activities of an organization with diverse occupations and specialties.

  • Successful completion of a background investigation
  • Up to 10% domestic travel may be required
