The System Administrator at Kansas Fiber Network is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and security systems. This role requires a strong technical background with an emphasis on vSphere hypervisor management, Linux/Windows server administration, and network security. The ideal candidate has excellent problem-solving skills and is able to work independently on projects, Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as with our existing Managed Service Provider (MSP).

Key responsibilities include administering and maintaining internal systems, managing vSphere hypervisors, supporting Linux/Windows servers, monitoring and responding to security alerts, implementing security best practices, troubleshooting, resolving system and network issues, participating in IT projects, and providing technical support to end users. The System Administrator will also maintain inventory and records of IT equipment, manage cell phones and SIP phones, and oversee network infrastructure components such as firewalls, routers, and switches. Additionally, this role involves documenting network and system diagrams, process flows, and disaster recovery procedures. The System Administrator is expected to be available for occasional after-hours support during evenings, weekends, and holidays and may be assigned additional duties as needed.

Education and Experience:

· Hold an Associate's or Technical Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or have 3-5 years of experience in a system administrator role.

· Display strong knowledge of vSphere hypervisor management, encompassing administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

· Demonstrate strong knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) management, including administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning. Experience with TrueNAS and/or ZFS is a plus.

· Possess experience in Linux and Windows server administration, including patch management, system updates, and performance optimization. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is a plus.

· Be familiar with MDR alerts and adhere to best practices in network and system security.

· Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on projects with minimal guidance.

· Show excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

· Have experience with Office 365/Azure AD in a hybrid environment.

· Relevant industry certifications, such as CompTIA Security+ and Linux+, RedHat RHCSA, Microsoft MCSA, or VMware VCP are a plus.

Responsibilities:

· Maintain and administer internal systems, including servers, workstations, networks, and security infrastructure.

· Manage and maintain vSphere hypervisors and Linux/Windows servers, including patch management, and system updates.

· Monitor and respond to MDR security alerts, safeguarding company assets and customer data.

· Develop and implement security best practices, including access control, intrusion detection, and encryption, to protect critical infrastructure and customer data.

· Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system and network issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring high service availability.

· Participate in planning, designing, and implementing IT projects, including infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and guidelines, in compliance with industry standards and best practices.

· Provide technical support to end users, addressing issues with PCs, software, printers, and other devices.

· Develop, maintain, and monitor server backup procedures, testing backups in a sandbox environment periodically.

· Manage the lifecycle of systems operations, including design, build, deployment, and support.

· Maintain inventory and records of IT equipment.

· Manage cell phones, MDM, and SIP phones with auto-attendant functionality.

· Monitor and maintain server/network traffic, network administration, firewalls, routers, switches, VPN, encryption, remote access, authentication, DNS, FTP, anti-virus, voice and data telecommunications, and storage area networks.

· Plan, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including firewalls, SSLVPN, routers, switches, wireless, and IP telephony.

· Document network and system diagrams, process flow diagrams, and disaster recovery procedures.

· Serve as on-call support during evenings, weekends, and holidays, unless prior arrangements have been made.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

The candidate will work in a back-office setting to support end users and collaborate with a skilled team of Network Engineers to manage production servers that power a statewide network. The candidate will have the autonomy to drive their own projects, identifying and addressing problem areas, and working closely with the Network Engineering and Operations team to brainstorm and establish standards and documentation.
