Position Summary
Light & Wonder, Inc. is hiring a SVP, People Operations to be a key strategic thought leader and outcome owner and a member of the senior leadership teams for the global Gaming business and the global People Capability organization. The role will lead a global Gaming, R&D and Technology People team of at least 50 central People roles that support Gaming, enabling the success of the >3,500 Creators who make up the Gaming organization. Direct reports include the People roles partnered with L&W’s global R&D and Technology executive team, and People leads for our APAC, EMEA, North America and Latin America Gaming teams, as well as our VP, People for India. This role requires a bias for the operational excellence and transformational actions required to achieve L&W’s market leading business outcomes. The ideal leader in this position will ensure the People organization supporting Gaming is a strategic global function that attracts, retains, and develops the talent critical to the business and culture change underway. They will leverage their direct team and partners around the globe to be a thought leader and outcome owner of multiple transformations happening concurrently that impact and enable the Gaming business.
Light &Wonder has an aggressive but achievable business transformation strategy and Earnings per Share (EPS) goals over the next three years. The President/CEO, Board of Directors and the entire Executive Leadership Team see talent and culture as indispensable levers that drive their business outcomes. The People executive hired for Gaming will skillfully and strategically interact with these highest levels of leadership to ensure alignment on strategy and visibility on related operational performance of People.
There must be a holistic understanding of the business, an enterprise mindset in solving challenges, ownership of outcomes for Gaming, and a commitment to impeccable strategic and operational partnership with the Gaming Leadership Team (GLT), Gaming People Team, COE leaders in the People organization and partners throughout L&W. The level of complexity and desired transformation creates an elevated level of ambiguity requiring processes and systems that establish strong organizational capabilities to enable organic and inorganic growth. Evaluating readiness and establishing proper priorities in what delivers the most impact is vital to driving performance, results, and motivating high performers driven to learn and win. This role will lead as a visible and humble role model of Light & Wonder’s Values creating a high-performance climate. There must be credibility, reliability, and an orientation toward collective success throughout the team they lead.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Gaming, R&D and Technology Leadership to understand business objectives and challenges, establishing a people strategy that enables Gaming’s commercial, financial and cultural outcomes.
  • Establish yourself as a trusted, strategic partner to the Gaming, R&D and Technology Leadership on all elements of People strategy, Talent Management and Workforce Plan delivery.
  • Work closely with COE leaders across the People Capability organization and your direct team to deliver flawless basics, establish and deliver the Talent Strategy for Gaming, and ensure enterprise outcomes of L&W’s People Strategy.
  • Ensure all roles in the Gaming People team demonstrate competence, accountability, integrity, teamwork and a strong ability to influence through data, pulse of our talent, and clear business cases for change when needed.
  • Mentor and lead a global team that can flex to support the wide range of functional roles across R&D, Technology, Systems, Manufacturing, Gaming Operations, Commercial, Engineering, Design, Sales, Marketing and more.
  • Lead the charge with the Gaming, R&D and Technology Leadership to live up to L&W’s high-performance culture expectations, enabling us to be a magnet for top talent, and develop the Gaming specific cultural ethos that ensures performance against objectives.
  • Partner closely with our CSR/DEI leader and Councils to set the tone for Gaming and ensure we’re driving progress in targeted areas that also enable Gaming’s business.
  • Partner closely with our Talent leader to ensure there are well-defined career paths with articulated milestones and corresponding development strategies to grow and groom a leadership bench and key functional experts from within to fulfill succession planning.

  • Partner closely with our Communications team to create clear, energizing communications so Gaming Creators understand how we are enabling and supporting them, leveraging leaders to deliver authentic and impactful messaging.

Qualifications:
  • At least 15 years of relevant Human Resources leadership experience with significant depth across the various functional discipline required. Experience in the gaming industry preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred, but not required
  • At least 3 years of experience leading a global Human Resources/People function as the top accountable executive strongly preferred.
  • Must have a track record of success as a proven global culture leader and transformer, demonstrating the ability to be a strategic business partner to C-level leaders and executive leadership teams.
  • Experience delivering transformative outcomes leveraging Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Learning & Development, HR Business Partner function and Rewards.
  • Experience in global environments going through significant change (mergers, acquisitions, high growth, leadership upgrades, business transformation, etc.). Deep exposure to effective talent acquisition strategy around highly competitive talent pools, new workforce plans and remote work models that ensured available talent pipelines with both active and passive top talent candidates, and candidate experience as a competitive advantage.
  • Coaching and organizational development capability, including leveraging off-sites and executive team meetings to build culture and drive results.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, acquire, retain, and develop the People Team needed to operate strategically and reliably as deep business partners.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time as needed.
