Job Description

Under broad supervision, provides specialized counseling and related guidance services for the developmental needs of all the students at Roosevelt Warm Springs (RWS) and Cave Spring (CS) campuses. Provides assistance and support to individuals at RWS & Cave Springs as they work toward their vocational or academic goals by providing individual counseling and conducting crisis management techniques. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and communicating progress to team members in an understandable way in both written and verbal report format.


Essential Functions

  • Provides individual counseling as needed.
  • Effectively leads skill based groups as assigned.
  • Proactively communicates with residential team regarding student’s progress or issues.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends in the field of rehabilitation / mental health.
  • Stays current with TCSG opportunities for students
  • Remains readily available to students in order to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
  • Advises teaching and administrative staff in curriculum, development, use of materials and equipment, and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures
  • Advises supervisors and faculty on matters concerning student discipline.
  • Works as a student advocate with the local technical college
  • Serves as a liaison between the school-based counselor and RWS/CS
  • Assists students with standardized test applications and interprets skill-based test data.
  • Works closely with the WBL coordinator on job placements
  • Designs and provides program support activities for clients as a result of test development and administration
  • Assist vocational liaisons with pre-ets services opportunities.
  • Perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and phones.


Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Work is performed in an office environment. Strong computer skills are needed due to ongoing changes to applications that affect the way the work is performed. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may occasionally require longer hours and weekend work.


Travel

No routine travel, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected for training.


Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Six years of related experience.


Preferred Education and Experience

Five or more years of high school counseling experience.

Master’s Standard Professional Service Certification in School Counseling P-12

Performs needs assessment, curriculum audits, effectiveness studies, facilitation of educational planning, resource networking and awareness sessions with entity personnel. May serve as lead worker. Advises participants or applicants on eligibility standards. Advises teaching and administrative staff in curriculum development, use of materials and equipment, and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures. Assists system personnel with the analysis of needs and directions for improvement based upon improvement team reports. Coordinates and directs the activities of education program improvement teams. Design, develops, conducts, and evaluates staff development training. Designs and implements program evaluation procedures and evaluate staff training. Designs and provides program support activities as a result of test development and administration. Develops classroom-based and/or distance learning training courses, using needs assessments and skill level analyses. Develops tests, questionnaires, and procedures that measure the effectiveness of curricula and determine the effectiveness of the program objectives. Manages the work of task forces appointed to continue the development of statewide program models. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision. Prepares or approves manuals, guidelines, and reports on state educational policies and practices for distribution. Provides consultation regarding program expansion or improvement; facilitates strategic improvement planning. Researches, evaluates, and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials. Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas. Updates the content of educational programs to ensure that training equipment and processes are technologically current
