Outreach and Support Assistant

Job Description:
In accordance with the McKinney-Vento Act, assists Homeless Student Liaison in the identification of students experiencing homelessness. Partners to provide school and community resources to students and their families, track educational data on attendance and school success. Develops and promotes good community relations among various school and community clientele.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Experience effectively communicating and interacting with culturally, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse students, families, and staff.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
District-wide travel between District schools, facilities and community partners
May be required to drive own vehicle in the performance of job duties
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, and bending
Frequent use of hands, keyboarding and writing
Physical ability to perform job functions, to include individually lifting (up to 10 pounds),
Vision, auditory, and mental acuity within normal ranges

ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Work is generally performed in typical school office/classroom environments with standard desks, equipment, fluorescent lighting and a moderate noise level

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:
Provide communication and interpretation services, as needed, to district families so they can immediately enroll their children in school and access community support services
Partner with community agencies to provide resources to families such as healthcare, housing, food, clothing and mental health services
Coordinate transportation for students experiencing homelessness
Work with District Liaison to identify necessary supports for students at risk of chronic absenteeism and other academic risk factors
Perform other related duties as assigned.or requested
Support DCSD compliance and execution of the McKinney-Vento Act
Work with district schools’ staff to assist with the identification of students experiencing homelessness
Track data such as attendance, school performance, credit attainment, and behavior through district information systems and communicate findings to District Liaison

Certifications:
Valid Colorado Driver's License - Colorado Dept of Transportation

Education:
Associate's Degree, High School or Equivalent (Required)

Skills:
Ability to demonstrate effective critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict-management skills, Ability to research, integrate information and uphold compliance with legal requirements, such as McKinney-Vento Act, Ability to understand and respect Data Privacy and Confidentiality Laws, Able to effectively communicate with the school district community., Be an effective listener with the ability to meet the needs of all stakeholders., Demonstrable skill in supporting students, families and district staff with diverse needs at various levels, Effective operation and appropriate usage of personal computers, software applications, general office equipment and telephone systems, Effective oral and written English communication skills with a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written, graphic, and verbal instructions, Has the ability to meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job., Is agile, flexible, and can navigate the change process, Knowledge of school registration processes, Proficient use of cloud-based systems and tools, Strong detail orientation, time management and organizational skills, Strong written and oral communication skills; bilingual in Spanish a plus, Understanding of cultural issues and ability to work effectively with persons representing diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds including their homelessness, Willingness and commitment to observe and model all District policies and procedures, Works cooperatively with students, parents, colleagues, staff and leaders to meet the diverse needs of the school community

  • All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
