Job Summary



Job incumbent fills in as a substitute when an employee is absent. Participates in classroom activities, facilitates children's play, and maintains a safe and healthy environment.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Staff Development/Regional Site Coordinator, job incumbent:

1. Assists the Teacher or Assistant Teacher with implementing the weekly lesson plan by:

a. providing a safe & healthy learning environment for children that promotes developmentally appropriate social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth, and development;

b. providing learning experiences, which promote independence, exploration and experimentation;

c. facilitating learning for children by introducing and providing materials and activities of interest to the children while using developmentally appropriate tools.

d. practicing approved methods for child guidance and discipline;e. respecting the child by observing, listening, and learning from what the child has to teach;

2. Maintains a respectful and professional relationship with parents at all times, and encourages parent involvement in the classroom.

3. Keeps all information shared by the family confidential.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED.

2. At least 6 months working with children ages birth to 5. Volunteer experience may be considered as work experience.

3. Negative TB clearance.

4. Current certification for Adult/Child and Infant CPR and First Aid.

5. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

6. Must pass background check pursuant to Alaska DHSS and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

1. Effective oral, written, and positive interpersonal communication skills.

2. Respect for the family as the child's first teacher.

3. Must be able to work on short notice.

4. Must be able to follow the TCC Prenatal to Five Head Start Standards of Conduct.5

. Current or former parents of children enrolled in Head Start are strongly encouraged to apply.

Supervision: This position has no supervisory duties.


Supervision



Physical demands: Flexible work schedule when needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds in support of supplies. Some kneeling, stooping and crawling. Must be able to work in a busy, sometimes stressful environment.


Summation



Summation: Beneficial skills such as self-motivated and eagerness to learn are a plus. Must have empathy.
