Student Transportation Specialist (Special Services K-21) Job at Olathe Public Schools
- Determine appropriate method of transportation utilizing one of the contracted providers
- Process (prepare) all transportation requests for K-21 special services students
- Maintain student transportation records with up-to-date health, safety, and behavioral information
- Communicate with contracted provider personnel to address routing concerns, equipment, etc.
- Facilitate communication between district personnel and contracted providers
- Resource to District departments and parents
- Provide guidance to District staff regarding district transportation procedures
- Communicate with District staff regarding student accommodations, adaptations, and behavioral interventions
- Prepare transportation data for reporting purposes; assist with reporting
- Analyze and define transportation routing areas for program placements
- Facilitate mileage reimbursement
- Communicate with parents to gather and provide information related to transportation
- Assist transportation providers and district personnel during after school hours and in emergency situations
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 2+ years of related customer service or public education experience; transportation related experience not required
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
- Must be able to communicate and work with a diverse group of individuals
- Ability to understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment
- Highly collaborative team player
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours a week / 242 calendar / 12 month
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $17.73
POSITION SUMMARY: This position was established for the purpose of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for ensuring the overall coverage required to meet the transportation operation scheduling demands; and serving as a liaison between district staff, parents, and the district’s transportation provider(s). This job reports to the Transportation Manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normal office setting with light work requiring some lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 30% walking, and 10% standing and significant fine finger dexterity. The position requires typing, filing, use of telephone and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Stretching, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling are required a moderate amount of the time. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
