As the Structures Subsystem Design Lead, you will:
  • Lead the design effort for the Structures subsystem, collaborating with the subsystem RSE, CPEs, and stress analysis teams to create integrated subsystem design concepts
  • Lead Structures Design engineers in developing mechanical design solutions of varying complexity using solid models, detailed drawings, and release of engineering work products CAD work
  • Establish the design of structures components through requirements allocation, trade studies, solid modeling, materials evaluations, and mechanical analyses
  • Participate in design issue resolution and develop solutions to technical problems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical content and timely closure
  • Support design reviews and engineering review boards

Typically has 9 or more years of experience.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • Skilled in Creo CAD modeling and CAD control
  • Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning expertise
  • Experienced in Windchill/EPDM design release and configuration control processes
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) concepts
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including structures, mechanisms, materials and analysis
  • Candidate must have strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills, and have the ability to interact effectively and build effective relationships
  • Candidate must have the ability to work in an environment with evolving requirements and dynamic schedules

  • +5 years of Mechanical design experience
  • Ability to absorb extensive technical detail and logically formulate solutions for execution on an inflexible schedule, often requiring integration of conflicting and, at times, incomplete data
  • Experience ensuring the physical and functional compatibility of hardware products throughout the full life cycle of the program
  • Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) or Delegate CPE for mechanical structures or similar and Engineering Material Review (EMRB) experience; ability to interact with hardware CPEs and designers to ensure mission requirements are satisfied
  • Proven track record of good judgment and programmatic execution necessary to meet technical requirements while balancing schedules and budget obligations
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic environment and tackle numerous roles as part of the daily program operations
  • Demonstrated ability to get results from teams without direct authority
  • Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive change

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in Colorado or Washington is $100,400 - $192,500. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full time employees: accrue 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO); receive 40 hours of Granted PTO annually for incidental absences; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
