Job Purpose
The Staff Accountant provides accounting and analytical support within the agency’s Finance department.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties
General Ledger Duties:
- Maintains fixed assets module and monthly depreciation.
- Maintains vehicle titles.
- Prepares and designs financial reports as requested by the finance department.
- Compiles, verifies, and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions in accordance with the MDHHS/CMH master contract.
- Provides general accounting, including journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis of general ledger for month-end close.
- Monthly prepares balance sheet, income statements, and other reports to summarize current and projected agency financial position.
- Monthly analyzes revenues and payables for allocation to appropriate cost centers.
- Prepares, balances, and closes accounts system monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year end.
- Investigates reasons for non-reimbursement of agency billings and reports trends to Director of Finance.
- Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the general operation of the Finance Department.
- Represents the Finance Department at meetings, at the request of the Director.
- Deposits Northpointe cash receipts in compliance with procedures.
- Serve as secondary support for payable processes including reviewing vendor invoices and ensuring proper expense allocation.
- Participates in all audit processes.
- Assists with grant reporting and special revenue reporting.
Qualifications

Education, Certifications, and/or Experience:
- Four-year bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- Two-years' experience working in accounting required.
- Experience working in community mental health preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be knowledgeable and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical requirements and regulatory requirements applicable to the agency.
- Strong Excel abilities including pivot tables and intermediate formula use.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger systems.
- Extensive knowledge of US GAAP.
- Participation in training and education as necessary to maintain current competency(s) in skill areas essential for implementing job duties and responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a drive to make process improvements and efficiencies.
- Ability to write policy/procedures
- Ability to research best practice, guidelines, and mandated requirements.
