Situated on the outskirts of South Carolina, Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is located approximately 20 minutes from Augusta, Georgia (home of the annual Master’s Tournament) and 30 minutes from Fort Gordon (home of the new US Army Cyber Command). The complex is one-hour away from Columbia, South Carolina and within a three-hour radius of Charleston, South Carolina, and many of the coastal beaches. Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a CAD Designer to join a dynamic team to work with Engineers using PTC Creo 3D CAD software for the Savannah River Site, DOE complex and national security missions.

Work Scope will include:

• Perform designs of R&D equipment using PTC Creo 3D CAD software.
• Work directly with engineers to determine project scope and limitations.
• Use CAD software to create 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings.
• Works with operator of the Prototyping (3D Printing) Lab to build plastic models for customers.
• Develop designs for complex engineering systems.
• Prepare designs including new systems, modifications, rework, and alterations to equipment and components.
• Provide technical direction and supervision to assigned designers and drafters.
• Review and analyze documents for constructability and interface requirements.
• Check drawings for compliance with codes and standards, procedures, and calculations.
• Provide design to resolve identified field problems and Nonconformance Reports.
• Estimate manhours, forecast completion dates, and report status of work activities as required.
• Coordinate design activities with applicable engineering personnel, vendors, and customers.
• Respond to problems by analyzing information provided and making recommendations based on safety, codes and standards, calculations, procedures, scheduling, and availability of materials.

Other Required Qualifications

• Proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption authorization will be required for employment at SRNL.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Graphics or Industrial Drafting with working knowledge of engineering systems, safety, industry and regulatory requirements, design criteria and construction practices.
• Experience in PTC Creo CAD software.
• Experience working with Additive Manufacturing equipment
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to use computers to prepare computer aided design drawings.
• Continued training in new technology and industry standards.
