As a Resource Unit Lead Team member, the Sr. Resource Land Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the Resource Unit team to achieve financial goals and desired outcomes. Leads the land management team in all Resource Unit silvicultural operations including site preparation, planting, herbaceous weed control, fertilization, thinning (where applicable) and timber stand improvements. Maximizes financial returns by utilization of decision support tools to conduct financial evaluations on silvicultural prescriptions. Manages all Resource Unit forest inventory and GIS updates. Lead, forest road systems improvements, boundaries and infrastructure. Develop and maintains good relationships with adjacent forest landowners, forest industry contacts and public agencies. Supports Real Estate in value enhancing land management activities. Manages the budgeting and forecasting component of Resource Unit silvicultural capital, overhead and contract services. Provides customer support to Resource Unit’s non-timber income, contractors and timber sales’ customers. Lead and motivate direct reports to advance employee engagement, build a strong safety culture and create a collaborative and empowered team. Responsible for safety, risk management and environmental compliance programs within area of responsibility.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide the Resource Unit Land Management Team with guidance and support with site specific silvicultural prescriptions that maximize net present value, incorporating latest decision tools.
• Expert in performing silviculture activity updates in the GIS database
• Protect timber and land assets from fire, theft, insects and diseases
• Lead the coordination of road and boundary line maintenance
• Develop and maintain good relationships with adjacent landowners, industry contacts and government agencies
• Collaborate with and assist Real Estate with value enhancing land management activities; prepare and implement annual Real Estate management plans
• Manage the Resource Unit budgeting and forecasting silvicultural capital, overhead and forest management expenses
• Support Resource Unit goals with value added customer relations
• Ensure adherence to SFI, state BMP’s and environmental regulations
• Maintain a safe work environment for company personnel, contractors and other stakeholders

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Forestry, a related field
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in land management with a strong emphasis in silviculture and forest operations administration.
• Proven ability to maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers
• Thorough understanding of performance management, people development regeneration silviculture, timber stand improvement, log merchandising, forest protection, road maintenance/improvement activities, GIS applications, forest inventory, financial analysis budgeting and forecasting process, safety procedures and environmental compliance.
