POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of the Sr. Advisor, ESG and Sustainability role is to drive those functions necessary for Pinto Valley Mine to obtain and maintain internationally recognized risk and environmental credentials; and to support the efficient collection and reporting of environmental, social and governance (ESG) data related to these initiatives. ESG is a rapidly evolving discipline involving transparency, engagement and disclosure of practices and performance on multiple levels. The Sr. Advisor, ESG and Sustainability develops and leads processes necessary to implement and demonstrate compliance with Corporate ESG initiatives. The role will provide strategic, site-based expertise on a wide range of ESG matters. The role requires close coordination with Pinto Valley’s senior leadership team, numerous Superintendents and Supervisors and promotes Capstone through intentional engagement with stakeholder groups.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

ESG

  • Liaise with site personnel and consultants to develop and maintain systems and tools to facilitate the collection, management and reporting of data to support ESG initiatives (e.g. The Copper Mark, Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, Mining Association of Canada’s Toward Sustainable Mining, etc.).
  • Provide Superuser support in converting historic and current environmental data currently stored in CMO into user-friendly modules in Damstra and maintain modules as necessary.
  • Work with the Manager, Land, Permitting, Environmental & Regulatory Affairs; Environmental Superintendent; Director Environmental, Health & Safety; and Manager, ESG to identify, design and present project ideas to the PVSLT and Capstone Senior Management that align with site-specific and companywide ESG initiatives.
  • Take lead on ESG conformance & compliance audits for Pinto Valley Mine, develop action plans to address identified gaps & findings, engage the PVSLT and site personnel to resolve gaps & findings in a timely manner.
  • Take lead on sustainability projects and development of Capstone’s corporate sustainability reports and disclosure obligations for Pinto Valley Mine.
  • Assist with in development of data collection tools in Damstra as well as conversion of current and historical environmental data to a format compatible for use by or upload to Damstra.
  • Provide training of ESG initiatives, data collection and management tools to site personnel.
  • Maintain knowledge of current, impending, and proposed ESG credentialing standards that may present threats or opportunities to Capstone’s interests.
  • Provide support to environmental projects and initiatives as directed.

Reporting

  • Prepare and present program updates and status reports as directed for the PVSLT and senior management.
  • Maintain detailed project records, develop and deliver project summaries and presentation materials as required.
  • Maintain Pinto Valley ESG project register.

General

  • Work in compliance with all Pinto Valley and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Work in compliance with all Pinto Valley Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure that contractors are competent to execute the tasks / jobs assigned.
  • Demonstrate support of Capstone’s Values: Safety, Accountable, Excellence, Caring.
  • Oversee contractors, prepares RFP’s, evaluates proposals, works with purchasing to obtain contracts and manages contracts and costs related to ESG and sustainability projects.
  • Participate in strategic business planning and budget development for role-related programs such as ESG and sustainability initiatives.
  • Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in business administration, sustainability, environmental policy, regulatory affairs, legal studies, or relevant experience.
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in business sustainability, environmental, or natural science/engineering-related field.
  • Experience leading research and analysis of complex scientific data, minimum five years.
  • Prior supervisory experience required, minimum five years.
  • Mining experience required, minimum five years.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The majority of the work performed by this position is conducted in an office environment; however frequent trips to engage with consultants and regulatory agencies and Capstone site personnel will be required.
  • Remote work arrangements and schedules to be worked out with immediate supervisor / direct report.
  • The nature of this position does occasionally require participation and attendance at off-hours meetings and company / community service / social events.
