Sr Accountant - California Job at Ceres Environmental Operations

Our diversified family of companies provides specialized forestry management, disaster recovery services and low-impact environmental restoration services to commercial, private, not-for-profit, municipal and government organizations.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for all operational accounting related to our newly formed California office. Areas of focus include project billings and costing, accounts payable, payroll, purchase orders, forecasting and analysis. This position will work closely with tree service, utility, lumber processing, and corporate teams, and a focus on teamwork will be a key to the employee s success.

Duties:

  • Review job cost and revenue ledgers for accuracy
  • Project forecasting
  • Calculate job cost accruals
  • Prepare unit-based, T&M, and percent complete client billings
  • Create spend analysis related to CA office and projects
  • Respond to request for research and analysis related to current or past projects
  • Manage incoming invoices by scanning and posting into electronic AP inbox for processing
  • Review and apply coding to expenses and job costs
  • Analyse subcontract invoices and make payment recommendations
  • Maintain site check register and request additional funds when necessary
  • Create purchase orders in Vista for appropriate approvals
  • Review processes and procedures and make recommendations to promote efficiency
  • Act as a liaison between regional operations and corporate as appropriate
  • Organize and provide required insurance data related to GL, auto, and work comp audits
  • Provide work papers for quarterly income estimates and annual returns
  • Collect W-9s and email to corporate
  • Review, input, and upload hours to payroll as needed.
  • Review, and work with Payroll to correct if needed, CA certified payroll reports.
  • Perform other position related duties as specified by management

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in accounting or related
  • 5+ years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
  • Job costing experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and review
  • Experience with Vista accounting software a plus
  • MS Office Suite – Intermediate to advanced skill within all MS Office programs. Intermediate to advanced Excel (pivot tables, macros, VLOOKUP) data manipulation required
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated, energetic, and result oriented professionally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in areas such as: negotiating, presenting, listening, questioning, and overall exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prepare effective reports
  • Ability to travel
  • Payroll experience a plus
  • Knowledge of applicable import and/or export processes and business standards

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Moderate noise typical of an office setting such as computers, printers, phone, and light customer traffic to being infrequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside in various weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to work with occasional exposure to dust and dirt.
