The Special Events Manager develops and leads events throughout the year which are responsible for raising a significant amount of fundraising dollars to support our work as well as awareness and support of our mission. The Special Events Manager builds and maintains relationships with various stakeholders to successfully execute events as well as raise awareness of hunger in our communities which allow the Food Bank to grow programming and resources to meet the needs of our clients.

SUMMARY

This position coordinates the Food Bank’s major fundraising and awareness special events and provides support to additional smaller events throughout the year (both internal and external). Supports general communications strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is not all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as the internal key staff person on a variety of Food Bank fundraising, marketing, and cultivation events including Taste of the Browns and Market at the Food Bank. Work in partnership with volunteers, staff and consultants to ensure events raise dollars, visibility and friends for the organization.
  • Develop and implement annual event plan and budget with the assistance of the director of Communications and Special Events.
  • Oversee all details for each event including logistics, restaurant recruitment, volunteer placement and coordination of all committees ensuring that all deadlines are met for each event.
  • Serve as staff liaison with committees to secure restaurant participation and in-kind sponsors and develop relationships with the various donors.
  • Manage event-day scheduling and logistics.
  • Handle post-event wrap-up including prompt recognition of all supporters and volunteers, and in-kind sponsors.
  • Handle planning and logistics, serving as the point person working with key staff on Harvest for Hunger events, Annual Meeting and other events as assigned
  • Serves as point person for on-site media-related events including summer feeding kickoff and annual legislators repack event and others as needed.
  • Provides general support to Food Bank development and communications initiatives including any major and corporate donor events.
  • Supports internal staff events as needed.
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises Communications and Events seasonal intern

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; and 2 to 3 years related event, nonprofit communications or marketing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, when necessary. Proficiency in Windows based computer programs is required. Emphasis on desktop publishing, and Photo Shop experience a plus. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work in a team atmosphere and manage a flexible schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements for this position include: Ability to frequently remain in a stationary position. Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. frequently. Ability to operate a computer or other office productivity machinery constantly. Occasional ability to ascend/descend stairs to access work spaces. Ability to position or move body to access filing cabinets or other work equipment on seldom occasions. Ability to frequently exchange accurate information and communicate in person or via telephone with clients, partners, donors, coworkers and other members of the community. Must be able to frequently view a computer screen. Ability to move office equipment/supplies occasionally. Ability to lift 25-50 lbs on a regular basis. Travel is occasionally required for this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
