So, what does a “Outreach Worker” do and how do they make a difference? Well, they canvas the downtown districts on foot. They respond to tourists or others in the area that needs general directions and recommendations. Additionally, and a key focus, is to provide consistent help to those in need who are downtown either experiencing homelessness and/or panhandling. This effort will both improve services to this population and improve the experience of those who live, work and visit the area. Additionally, the Outreach Worker will network with other downtown service providers and collaborate with other agencies and departments focused on providing services to those in need.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Here are some basic responsibilities of the Outreach Worker :

Provide visible presence within the downtown district, engaging people who have an obvious need of homeless services with the goal of connecting people to meaningful housing and services that could reduce the overall prevalence of both issues in the area.

Provide daily and weekly information to inform and project stakeholders about the condition of panhandling that impacts those who live, work and visit Burbank.

Have knowledge of local ordinances related to “quality of life” to include public intoxication, public urination, open container, loitering, trespassing, aggressive panhandling and other similar incidents that put both the person participating in the conduct at-risk and also pedestrians.

Provide hospitality services by interacting with pedestrians in a polite and professional manner, offering assistance, information and directions.

Identify and assess service needs of “clients.”

Provide information and referrals to the right services.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with those in need.

Track and communicate outcomes to STREETPLUS

Maintain information in database (Statview) after engagements.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of Associates Degree or other certification in a social service field.

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in related field.

Experience with street and/or community outreach initiatives and knowledge of intervention and conflict resolution.

Connection and/or knowledge of social services and supportive housing providers in the city of Downtown Raleigh, NC.

Computer literacy (Microsoft and data systems).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 per hour
