JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for participant training, skill acquisition and successful adjustment to retail and production work environments to meet Employment Path Community guidelines. Work as part of a team to provide support, guidance, education, and supervision for participants with developmental disabilities and other barriers to competitive employment in accordance with the mission of Goodwill Industries and all state regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide counseling, problem solving, direct training, feedback and other services that will assist individuals with disabilities or disadvantages to improve or learn proper job skills.
- Provide on-the-job training to participants to assure job mastery. May be assigned to work directly with one or more individuals.
- Works as part of a team to ensure coverage according to individual supervisory requirements and identified support needs.
- Skills trainers working in a retail setting will work with Program Participants, Skills Trainers and all Store Employees to direct and train participants to identify and assist in meeting production goals.
- Will actively work alongside individuals being trained to demonstrate tasks and model appropriate work performance ensuring that correct procedures are followed by participants which includes demonstrating teamwork with store employees, setting boundaries, maintaining a clean work environment; to follow procedures according to wage and hour standards; store expectations; and working their scheduled shifts.
- Assist participants with processing received merchandise and donations and will throughout the day double-check work quality and assist customers/vendors as needed. Ensure that referred participants remain on task at their stations.
- Ensure that participants and other employees are working in a safe and clean work environment. Follow all cleaning protocols in place.
- Reports to Lead Trainer and Store or Production Manager daily.
- Train participants to follow procedures according to wage and hour standards and store expectations.
- Follow written protocols, ISPs and safety plans for individuals served. Gather input from individuals served yearly by completing PCI (person centered Information). Complete case notes, Incident Reports, and daily attendance in a timely manner per written expectations.
- Follow all Alaska or Oregon Administrative Rules and CARF guidelines by following all procedures, proper documentation and attending all necessary trainings.
- Communicate health and safety issues/needs to Program Management staff. In the event of an emergency, Program management staff should be immediately contacted, and written procedures follows.
- Accurately dispenses and documents medication administration in accordance with Medication Administration Policy and Procedures as per med error reports. Medication training must be provided prior to administering any medication to a Referred Employee.
- Adhere to company policies and work rules, follow all Goodwill safety procedures.
- Maintain training requirements and complete core competencies for Employment Professionals within 90 days of hire day and annually.
- Present and record weekly safety meeting topics with program participants. Assist VTS to complete monthly emergency drills and ensure all program participant are fully involved.
- Develop and maintains smooth, cooperative working relationships and communications with peers and subordinates while demonstrating an awareness of and consideration for the opinions and feelings of others.
JOB EXPECTATIONS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence including incident/accident reports and case notes at least weekly.
- Ability to speak effectively to participants, supervisors and customers.
- Must be able to maintain professional interactions with co-workers, referral agency personnel, ISP team members, customers and participants always.
- Maintain well-groomed appearance and acceptable dress in compliance with GILSCCs dress guidelines. (See Handbook policy 172)
- Reports for scheduled work regularly and on time. Notifies supervisor as soon as possible regarding the need and expected duration of any absence.
- Promotes the development of GILSCCs vision of growth and efficiency.
- Must exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics.
- Must be able to function independently in a work setting.
- Must be able to perform essential functions of the Skills Trainer job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills through command of the English language in order to work with customers and employees.
- Must be able to pass an Oregon Department of Human Services criminal background check and pre-employment drug-screening test. These are non-negotiable.
- Employee must immediately inform Manager of any arrests and/or convictions that occur while employed at Goodwill.
- Possess a valid Alaska or Oregon driver license and insurable driving record. May be occasionally required to drive a vehicle to another work site or transport participants. Loss of Driver License must be immediately reported to supervisor.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
EXPERIENCE
Twelve months related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
EDUCATION
Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from an accredited college, university or technical school preferred. Medication training must be provided prior to administering any medication to a Program Participant.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Oregon drivers license and insurable driving record. Maintain current FA/CPR, OIS, and Mandatory Abuse certification as well as attend a minimum of 12 hours of In-service trainings per year. Must maintain a current CPR/First Aid card.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. For production environments, the employee must frequently lift and/or move 40-70 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds with assistance, will use a hand truck and pallet jack to move material. Must be able to physically demonstrate job tasks for participants, as needed.
- Must be able to do heavy lifting, stand, walk, carry, push stoop, bend, twist, crouch, grasp, kneel and climb.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include color perception, peripheral vision, near and far vision and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. Works indoors in either a warehouse or store setting. Environment is heated or may be air conditioned. May be exposed to dust if working in warehouse environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
WORK HOURS
Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
