Overview:

Title of Position: Site Safety Specialist
Location: Plant Sites in N.J., Eastern P.A., Office in Southampton, NJ.


Position Essential Functions Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Site Safety Specialist is to ensure the safest possible work environment for our employees through collaborative leadership within our safety department. The Site Safety Specialist is responsible for monitoring Silvi facility safety systems, as well as employee behaviors, to ensure compliance with Silvi Materials' Policies and Procedures.

Under the direction of the Head of Safety and through regular site inspection, the Site Safety Specialist will monitor our compliance with applicable federal and state health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, and standards. These include but are not limited to: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and DOT (Department of Transportation).

Other responsibilities include:

  • Conducts daily health and safety audits to evaluate site level compliance with Silvi policies and federal, state and local regulations.
  • Propose solutions to eliminate safety risks found during audits to site management and to the Head of Safety.
  • Participate in onsite safety functions such as Tool Box talks and Driver Safety Meetings.
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on any company property follow Silvi policies and procedures.
  • Works with Site Managers, and the Head of Safety to investigate company accidents, incidents, near misses and injuries to determine the root cause, responsible parties and corrective action.
  • Act as plant support for all federal, state and local regulatory inspections, including OSHA, MSHA and DOT.
  • Monitor compliance with training programs for common processes or equipment to mitigate risk of accidents due to lack of training.
  • Conduct safety training programs that demonstrate the care and proper use of safety equipment (PPE, fall protection, respiratory protection, etc.).
  • Provide reports, analysis and consistent feedback to the Head of Safety.
  • Present summary of safety data and Smart Drive KPI’s weekly to the Head of Safety.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years’ experience in Redi-Mix Concrete, Cement, Aggregates or similar field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or other relevant course of study preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
  • Occupational health, safety and environmental compliance experience with applicable federal, state and local regulations and standards.
  • OSHA 30, OSHA Hazwoper and First Aid/CPR Certifications a plus.
  • Experience with safety programs and OSHA/MSHA regulations a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOT compliance a plus.
  • Ability to assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating comprehensive health and safety accident prevention programs and training.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, consultative and facilitation skills with all levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Regular travel – between locations and projects.
  • Sense of urgency & ability to meet deadlines (self-directed).
  • Computer skills proficiency with: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide weekend and night coverage occasionally throughout the year.
