Job Description:
- Must know and utilize safety equipment and procedures.
- Perform routine Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) and troubleshoot the equipment. Make occasional adjustments and minor repairs to minimize reliance on the shop partners to produce a high quality, appealing package that meets or exceeds customer's expectations.
- Reads production order or follows oral instructions to determine cheese type, style and packaging material required.
- Follows all set points for quality bag production. If set points are not working and need changed a leader shall be involved to ensure proper documentation steps are taken. Sets eye marks, guides, package hole punch, scales, and gas flush settings to specifications as indicated by the package size and production order.
- Makes adjustments or repairs such as realigning belts, replacing buckets, or changing various equipment and settings due to order changes or damage. Aligns equipment for package spacing, label and package stickers, to produce a high quality package or product.
- Work with Leaders and fellow partners to ensure Food Safety and Partner Safety. Understand and execute standard operating procedures/visual work instruction relative to position. Perform all PCP and CCP checks required for position. Follow reaction plan for Food Safety, Food Quality and customer requirement outages and by contacting TA/TL. Be able to identify and understand customer requirements and assist in assuring proper operation and product. Record accurate data on production reports.
- Operates Volpak and Ishida machines.
- Observes operation of machine to detect malfunctions such as jamming, wrinkling, or tearing of material. Identify and resolve basic machine operational issues. Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, & tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, package integrity, oxygen level, correct label and placement, and other Quality Inspections.
- Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on cheese products to measure oxygen levels, package integrity, shelf life, or material characteristics.
- Record and use data to learn and understand the “voice of the process” and how to improve the operation of the overall line.
- Routinely lift up to 50 pounds
- Over time as required by customer requirements or departmental needs.
- Other duties as required to maintain production efficiency
- Maintain an audit ready environment.
- Adheres to learned 5S, lean, and six sigma techniques. Use problem solving tools to solve problems. Be proactive in teams to solve line issues and inefficiencies.
- Expected to be a process owner of processes that affect the operator’s own work area.
- Proactive in learning and troubleshooting of operator’s equipment. Take ownership.
- Work harmoniously with fellow Partners to maintain a productive work environment.
- Operate case packing equipment when required, including but not limited to breaks or other department needs.
- Reads Production Orders to insure completion of case run to meet service goal.
- Loads packaging materials from pallets into packaging systems, either automated or manual by-pass, by hand.
- In-puts and changes case packaging codes per production order instructions. Records Process Control Point data related to case coding.
- Loads glue into box closing system. Adjusts box erector for proper operation.
- Communicates with Volpak and palletizer operators to ensure line continuity.
- Operate X-Ray/Package Scale Combination
- Sanitation duties on designated “clean-up” shifts.
- Proper use of allocating and computer applications including Word, Excel, RMCS, OPM, etc.
- Manage scrap and salvage generated in work area
- Other duties as assigned by TA/TL
