SUMMARY: Under moderate supervision, performs routine but somewhat varied clerical duties in accordance with standard procedures.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Under moderate supervision, performs routine but somewhat varied Shipping Department clerical duties in accordance with standard procedures.


Keystrokes and prints data for all new orders. Prepares packing slips and labels and delivers them to Order Pickers.


Answer telephone inquiries from shippers, internal personnel, and others. Prepare copies of various documents.


Contact shippers/drivers for pick-ups.


Prepare Master Bills for shipping.


Coordinates and communicates with others to exchange information/data.


Often contacts shippers for pick-up times, deliveries, and other appointments.


Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy condition on company property to achieve the best working environment possible for all employees and visitors.


Performs duties in compliance with company policies and procedures.


Maintains regular and predictable attendance.


Performs other assignments as requested or as business needs require.

JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Clerk, Shipping


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with 6 to 12 months related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of a variety of office practices, operation of office equipment, such as computers, requiring some advanced skills knowledge. Knowledge of basic accounting required.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently and have the ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and simple correspondence and be able to speak effectively with other employees, vendors, and customers.


Has regular contact with others in the department on routine matters and frequent contact with other departments or outside the Company furnishing or obtaining factual data. Ordinary courtesy and tact required.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers including decimals and fractions. Checks reports, forms, records and comparable data where interpretation is required involving basic skills knowledge.


REASONING ABILITY:

Uses some judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and/or practices or to respond to present computer menu choices or pre-programmed computer commands involving the making of minor decisions.
