Service Writer, FT, Machine Shop Job at Walker Auto & Truck
Service Writers support the operations of the Machine Shop and Machinists. Members of the machine shop team set up and operate various general or specialized machines to repair automotive engine parts, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machine procedures. The Service Writer builds on the Walker core values of outstanding service to our customers while maximizing relationships with a sales focus.
Effective service writers possess and build technical knowledge or experience that qualifies them for the customer-facing service writer role. They thrive as communicators and collaborators since they must work with multiple parties to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and successfully.
This role drives Machine Shop team excellence by delivering high quality customer sales and service experiences while driving Machine Shop performance to meet production goals.
- Deliver the Ideal Customer Experience:
- Greeting customers, exploring and documenting their service needs.
- Writing up customer information
- Communicating customer information to a technician
- Responding to customer questions and communications during the service process
Support Sales and Service of the Machine Shop Operations:
- Inputting and maintaining customer and vehicle information into a point-of-sale system
- Writing and tracking service work via a point-of-sale system.
- Creating automotive work estimates by determining labor, supplies, and materials needed.
- Billing clients and managing work transactions; providing timely details and feedback to Machine Shop team as needed.
- Ordering parts for jobs to ensure efficient time management and turnaround
- Managing jobs efficiently and in collaboration with team members to meet the customer deadlines and shop performance goals
Continuously Develop KNOW HOW:- Actively engage and participate in Walker sales and service programs
- Stay up to date on all services, products and parts available through Walker Auto & Truck machine shops
- Participate in in-store training opportunities, including but not limited to NAPA Training programs, Paycom, PartsPRO, and appropriate outside vendors.

EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of machine shop
- Proven customer service experience
- Proficient in current technology, including Microsoft Office, service management database and service database software
- Industry experience preferred with basic knowledge of parts and auto services
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION:
Valid NC Drivers License

The noise level in the work environment is frequently moderate to loud. The employee may further be required to: 1) Lift a maximum of 50 pounds from the floor to truck bed height (3-4 ft) and bend/lift 30 pounds from the floor to overhead; 2) Bend and twist 20-30 times daily while carrying a load of 20 pounds; 3) Utilize Material Handling Equipment; 4) Work in non-temperature-controlled environments
