Talasaea is seeking a Senior Wetland Ecologist to join our alliance of spirited ecologists and landscape designers. Our private development projects range in size and complexity from multi-family and single-family residential communities, to retail, commercial, and industrial developments. Projects involve wetland and stream ecological studies; critical areas delineations, ratings, typings, and impact assessments; and mitigation designs that include habitat creation, enhancement, restoration; and post-construction performance monitoring. Landscape designs that integrate ecological components within the built environment require team collaboration that leads to consistent professional growth and dynamic team bonding.

We are located in a unique rural setting that offers diverse outdoor opportunities. The office abuts the Tolt Pipeline Recreational Corridor, and the Cottage Lake Creek runs through the property. We also offer an employee pea patch and ample outdoor spaces to enjoy sun-filled break times. We are five minutes from Woodinville Wine Country and downtown Redmond.

The ideal candidate will perform and manage projects from site reconnaissance through environmental permitting. This person thrives coordinating with both internal and external team members across several disciplines, as well as with clients, governmental agencies, and contractors as part of the environmental assessment, regulatory review, site planning, and project permitting processes.

Our small office offers the opportunity to broadly experience all aspects of the business from proposal writing and budget tracking, to building relationships with various agencies, clients, and other consultants. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing field work using state-of-the-art data collection/analysis tools and software.
  • Working with creative in-house landscape architects and environmental planners to prepare mitigation plans.
  • Conducting field studies and ecological assessments.
  • Preparation and management of applications for environmental permits, including COE/DOE IPs/NWPs, with NMFS/USF&WS for ESA, and NHPA Section 106; WDFW HPAs; DNR FPAs; DOE SMPs; local agency permits; and NEPA/SEPA.
  • Report and proposal writing, and technical editing.
  • Coordinating with our multi-disciplinary team of ecologists and designers, as well as clients, governmental agencies, and contractors.
  • Responsible for schedules, production, and coordination of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Mentoring project staff to achieve and maintain corporate work performance standards.
  • Maintaining client relations and managing project performance to meet client expectations.
  • Managing the day-to-day communication with clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Developing and managing project schedules and budgets.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience in private sector environmental consulting, preferably located in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Experience in project and budget management.
  • Ability and willingness to provide leadership to technical staff.
  • Experience in personally performing wetland determinations/delineations, stream delineations and typing; wetland ratings; functional assessments (e.g., credit-debit analysis); fish and wildlife habitat assessments and management plans; biological evaluations; performance monitoring, and mitigation planning, design, and permitting.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites, ACAD, and GPS.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local codes and ordinances applicable to both critical areas and landscape requirements.
  • Possess a Certificate in Wetland Science & Management from the University of Washington or equivalent certificate.
  • Work authorization (Required)

This is a full-time position (M-F, 8am-5pm) with an excellent salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Talasaea offers benefits, including medical/dental/vision insurance, paid vacations and holidays, bonus pay, 401(k), and potential future partnership for the right individuals.

22 days of PTO (15 vacation, 6 sick, 1 personal)

Full medical, dental, and vision - $75 bi-weekly employee cost. Employer pays remainder of premium.
