The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Operational Support Administrator to join its Materials Manufacturing – Fabrication Technology (MM-FT) team. This team is a diverse group of engineers and scientists working to develop fabrication techniques using state-of-the-art robotics, inspection, and data acquisition equipment. We are seeking a candidate to support the hardware, software, and network infrastructure required for these development operations.

The engineering and scientific staff continually seek advanced technology unique to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Work duties will include managing day-to-day operations of the diverse collection of computers, software, and peripheral equipment, ensuring that it stays up to date, secure, and functional. Lab personnel will rely on you for everything from day-to-day support, as well as working with the IT team to enable future upgrades that will allow for quicker implementation of modern technology and solutions. The IT staff assists in understanding cybersecurity related concerns and requirements during and after the procurement process to ensure requirements are understood and systems are protected and authorized for use. You will be directly involved in leading the administrative aspects of auditing and tracking, procurement and installation, as well as leading the efforts to ensure compliance to NNL and DOE computer security requirements. Additionally, the IT team is currently working on establishing a dedicated network to support the development efforts, and the successful Operational Support Administrator will play a key role in contributing to efforts associated with standing up this network.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience or; Associate degree in related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years of relevant experience or; Bachelor degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT hardware (group policies, antivirus configuration, Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) scans, Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance).
  • Experience interpreting requirements and documenting compliance.
  • Experience with operations and maintenance related to data centers.
  • Experience with evaluation and documentation of cybersecurity requirements.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Project, Excel, and Word.
