The mission of Democracy Prep is to educate scholars for success in college and a life of active citizenship. Core to this is ensuring that our scholars and teachers are in a safe environment. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the security, safety and well-being of all staff, scholars, visitors and the premises.

• A holder of security certifications (preferred)

What You'll Do

• Welcome and authorize each guest appropriately, as per established protocol.
• Provide excellent customer service to all who enter our space. Acknowledge and direct guests who enter, and de-escalate challenging situations as needed.
• Immediately respond to emergencies and provide necessary and appropriate assistance to staff and scholars.
• Protect all assets relative to theft, assault, fire and other safety issues. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Unpermitted technology movement out of the building
• Intervention in cases of assault, even when playful
• Addressing writing on walls or vandalizing of school property.
• Follow procedures laid out in the safety plan for all initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol, traffic control and accident investigations.
• Conduct walkthroughs periodically throughout the day to ensure scholar safety and a visible presence in the hallways.
• Ensure that the security post is always covered.
• Attend necessary training including but not limited to de-escalation, emergency or scholar response training, as per supervisor discretion.

Hours

This is a part-time position within the hours of 10AM to 6PM PST, Monday through Friday.
