GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB


Performs skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of kitchen appliances and equipment. This position will prepare and submit quotes and/or RFPs along with various clerical duties in support of the School Nutrition Program. This position will maintain fixed asset reports, trains employees on new kitchen equipment, and communicates with all employees in a team setting. This position must be willing to obtain a CDL Class B license as a backup driver to the warehouseman position. This position reports to the School Nutrition Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Repairs and maintains all kitchen equipment including, but not limited to,
    • convection and combi ovens
    • warming cabinets
    • heated pass through
    • deep fryers, serving lines
    • braising pans
    • dish machines
    • ice machines
    • mixers
    • slicers and dough equipment.
  • Maintains google form by
    • Prioritizing work orders
    • Submitting work orders to the maintenance department
    • Closes work orders when they are complete
  • Handles all emergency situations related to kitchen equipment.
  • Clerical work includes,
    • Writing quotes and requisitions for purchases while following the DPI and procurement plan.
    • Requisitions are written in a professional manner using a template and have clear guidelines for awarding bid winners
    • Bid winners will be determined by using an excel spreadsheet for each RFP, which must be kept on file for three years.
      • Requisitions are written for small wares (carts, bakers racks, etc)
      • Parts for kitchen repairs
    • Maintaining fixed assets list
      • Submits fixed assets form regarding transfer, removal, or addition of equipment to Operations Supervisor.
  • Troubleshoots plumbing and electrical problems and coordinates with Maintenance Department.
  • Main contact when contracting work is being performed, this may fall outside of regular work hours.
  • Possesses excellent and professional communication skills. Willing to work as a team.
  • Willingness to obtain a CDL Class B license within one year of hire and willing to be the back-up delivery driver when the warehouseman is absent. Also, must be willing to help the warehousemen with larger than normal delivery loads.
  • Will assist and supervise with the cleaning of kitchens with the warehouseman during the summer cleanings on hoods, floors, blowout vents and fans, etc.
  • Maintains records of kitchen equipment warranties.
  • Works with Health Department Inspectors, Fire Marshals and Maintenance Director to ensure all kitchens are operating according to regulations.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance on all kitchen equipment.
  • Maintains supplies and tools required for position. Including proper care of work vehicle.


ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Makes recommendations regarding replacing old equipment.
  • Provides for the Maintenance Department summer projects related to painting, repairing broken tile, structural improvements, etc. in cafeterias.
  • Maintains assigned vehicle in cooperation with the Bus Garage.
  • Attends workshops and classes as appropriate on new equipment and to keep up-to-date on maintaining all equipment.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

  • Ability to interpret and follow users’ manuals and diagrams related to appliances and equipment.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.
  • Ability to resolve problem situations with sound judgment.
  • Skills of keyboarding with accuracy at the speed necessary for the position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to safely operate motor vehicles required in the performance of work assignments.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work assignments


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE


High school diploma or equivalent and factory training in repairing and maintaining commercial kitchen equipment. At least two years (preference will be given to those with more experience) of experience working with kitchen equipment or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work.


Interpersonal Communication:
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.


Language Ability:
Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format.


Intelligence:
Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.


Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.


Numerical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply.


Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.


Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using tools and a keyboard.


Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as maintenance equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.


Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.


Physical Communications:
Requires the ability to talk, write and hear.
