Responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY
:
Schedules appointments, retrieves records, and provides office and general assistance to nurses, office staff, and physicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
  • Locates and requests medical records and x-ray films needed for clinic appointments
  • Schedules patient appointments in the clinic
  • Schedules patient appointments for medical tests and exams in other clinics
  • Schedules administration and miscellaneous appointments for the physicians
  • Assembles patient information packets
  • Monitors patient education materials and restocks items as needed
  • Prepares thank you notes for gifts received in the clinic
  • Organizes and files medical journals in the medical library
  • Design and create miscellaneous clinic forms on the computer
  • Assists nursing staff with cleaning patient care areas
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and make appropriate decisions within clinic guidelines
  • Provider back-up coverage for Patient Liaison as needed
  • Utilizes professional and tactful communications
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times
  • Participates in staff development activities and orientation as requested
  • Promotes a teamwork atmosphere

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One-year experience working on personal computers and/or mainframe terminal
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology class preferred or previous experience and knowledge of medical terminology
  • One-year experience in office setting, preferred medical office, or completion of medical secretarial program
  • Previous experience in office telephone practice
