GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Holsen Lab in the Departments of Medicine and Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School and Multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Research Collaborative at Mass General Brigham is seeking a full-time post-bac research assistant (Research Assistant I) with a strong interest in neuroscience and eating disorders. The individual will assist with a study using neuroimaging (fMRI) to investigate biomarkers of therapeutic efficacy in eating disorders. The post-bac research assistant will be mentored primarily by PI Dr. Laura Holsen (Brigham and Women’s Hospital), along with co-mentorship from collaborators in the Multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Research Collaborative (MEDRC).

Fostering diversity in the scientific research workforce is a key goal of Dr. Holsen and MEDRC team members. Thus, additional funding, support, and mentorship are available for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups demonstrated to be underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The research assistant will collect, process, and analyze neuroimaging data using standard methods. Neuroimaging processing responsibilities include DICOM unpacking, conversion of data to NIfTI (BIDS) format, visual inspection of structural and functional data quality, editing and running MATLAB-based SPM12 preprocessing scripts, and quality assessment of motion for functional data. Additional responsibilities include interacting with individuals with eating disorders and their families, preparing detailed agendas and data updates for meetings, and training new staff members in neuroimaging analyses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field required.
  • Experience working in a research lab with experience in neuroimaging data collection and analysis preferred.

Ideal applicants for the position should:

  • Have a strong background and interest in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, and/or biology.
  • Have a strong background and interest in quantitative subjects such as mathematics, statistics, or computer science.
  • Be in good academic standing with a strong GPA and have completed coursework in psychology and neuroscience.

  • Programming skills (previous R experience is preferred, with a combination of MATLAB, bash, python)
  • Comfort with Linux environment
  • Experience using R, MATLAB, SPM12, and fMRIPrep
