As a labor and delivery (L&D) registered nurse, you will be involved in comforting a mother through labor, keeping all family members advised of the progress of delivery, assisting the doctor during the birth of the child, and educating new parents on the care of their infant. In the event of any emergency situations, you will be called to provide your L&D registered nurse knowledge and expertise in the management of life-threatening complications.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Labor & Delivery RN:
- Monitoring the fetal heart rate, and mother's vital signs
- Measuring the strength and timing of contractions •
- Administering medications and performing diagnostic tests •
- Consulting with physicians and other members of the care team
- Assisting with inducing labor
- Identifying and assisting with complications
- Current RN License with North Dakota Board of Nursing
- Certified in CPR, ACLS, PALS and TNCC
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
- One or more years of experience in Labor and Delivery preferred
- Educated on and follows HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
- Follows Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
- All employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have applied for a religious or medical exemption prior to start date
Position requires lifting, bending, sitting to chart, and standing. Lifting of 50 to 100 lbs. or more required. Position can be a physically-demanding job. Mental efforts include:
- Critical thinking
- Ability to make decisions in crisis situations.
- Transcribes and implements physician orders.
- Provides education to patients and their family member(s).
- Provides emotional support to patients and family member(s)/
- Plans and implements Plan of Care for patients.
- Passing medications, mixing IV’s, doing treatments and assessing patients.
