Recreational therapy, also known as therapeutic recreation, is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, to psychological and physical health, recovery, and well-being.

Lighthouse behavioral health Hospital is looking for a Part Time Recreation Therapist provider to bring their skills and knowledge to the facility in the following areas:

  • Pet Therapy (certified)
  • Art Therapy
  • Music Therapy
  • Job Skills
  • sports
  • outdoor activities therapy.
Duties:

Qualifications

  • Duties:

    • assists in the provision of related therapy programming, including individual, group, and family therapy; equine-assisted learning and workshops
    • Participate, at the direction of Therapist, Clinical Department to support or participate in Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) activities, training of clients and staff, and other programmatic elements, including special education on type of therapy to the clinical department and other staff.
    • make suggestion for the Implementation and supervision of safety/risk management protocols for specialized expertise, clients, staff, and volunteers
    • participate in the development of programming, and workshops
    • Assist in scheduling groups and individual sessions, maintaining appropriate schedules
    • May be asked to participate in marketing activities, such as tours, program promotion, and other activities, as directed by supervisor or Marketing department.
    • Available hours of work per week, 0-40.
    • Adhere to all codes of ethics/conduct, maintain professional boundaries, and protect the confidentiality of clients.
    • Understand and adhere to Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital Policy and Procedures and tenets of the Employee Handbook.
    • Understand and adhere to scope of professional credentials/licensure, remaining current in guidelines and standards related to such.
    • Understand and adhere to regulations and guidelines set forth by Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH), Joint Commission (JCo).
    • Read and acknowledge written information/email prior to the beginning and throughout shift; and
    • Maintain communication with all direct services departments about dynamics, behavior, events, and other required-to-report issues.
    • Work a minimum 8 hour per week as needed.

Regulatory Qualifications: College level reading, writing, and math skills: assessment, evaluation, and interpretation skills; knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment’ flexibility; time management and organization skills; teaching or training skills helpful understanding of, or ability to understand, DSMIIIR methodology; inpatient psychiatric experience preferred. Willing to work flexible hours and willing to travel, including overnight, in work capacity; must exert self-control in volatile or hostile situations; able to respond well to deadlines; Bachelors’ degree in relevant field (e.g., recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, occupational therapy). Certification or registration preferred. Good oral and written communication skills. Must have or be eligible for a driver’s license in South Carolina. Must be knowledge of and abide by HIPPA regulations with regard to protect health information as defined by HIPPA and PSI. Uses and / or discloses on a daily basic verbal, written and / or electronic PHI in order to perform job duties, as pertains to (Clients’ Financial, Demographic, and / or Clinical Data) and / or Employees’ Financial, Demographic, and / or Clinical Data.
